Lewis Prothero is a major antagonist of the 2006 dystopian political action film V for Vendetta, based on the graphic novel of the same name.
He was portrayed by Roger Allam.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He served as the commander of the Larkhill Resettlement Camp, a concentration camp where all English inhabitants who didn't fit the Norsefire Party's Aryan ideal, such as immigrants, Muslims and homosexuals, were experimented on with biological weapons.
- He is shown to have personally tortured at least one inmate at Larkhill by shocking him with an electric cattle prod as he cowered on the floor.
- He oversaw Dr. Surridge's development of the Saint Mary's virus, which Norsefire used to kill thousands of people across the UK to weaken the incumbent government. He later used his pharmaceutical company to "create" and distribute the cure so he would get rich and be praised as a hero.
- His introductory scene has him supporting Norsefire's persecution of homosexuals and Muslims, heavily implying that he took part in killing them.
- Back during his days at Larkhill, he seems to have gotten along with Anthony Lilliman, but that's likely because Lilliman was a terrible person just like him.
- Threatens to fire Roger Dascombe if he cannot find a new director of photography for his show.
- Is shown to be very narcissistic, given that he spends a lot of time admiring and worshipping himself in mirrors and recordings of himself.
- Proves to be a coward, claiming he can be rid of V easily, until this is proven wrong when he pleads for mercy when V appears in his bathroom.
- His violent death at V’s hands is never played for sympathy as he deserved it for aiding Adam Sutler.
Trivia[]
- Lewis Prothero is, alongside Miguel Bain, Adam Sutler, Peter Creedy, Lord Ozunu, Cypher Reagan and The Analyst, one of the seven Wachowskis villains to be Pure Evil.
- He is the only V for Vendetta character to be Pure Evil in both the film and the original graphic novel.
