Dr. Lester Sheridan is a minor antagonist in the Series 6 of Endeavour, and the main antagonist of its first episode, "Pylon".
He was a pedophilic child abuser and molester who kidnapped children and drugged them, so that he could take photos of them and sell them to pedophilic criminals. He was particularly responsible for the kidnapping and suffering of both Emily Bayard and Rosie Johnston three years later.
He was portrayed by Roger May, who also portrayed Canon Damien Fox in Father Brown.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He kidnapped and molested the children, before taking photos of children being drugged to sell them to his other partners.
- Three years before the story, Sheridan kidnapped the ten-year-old Emily Bayard and used his method upon her, drugging her with sedatives and repeatedly molested her (despite his claims of never doing so).
- To evade capture, he also made Emily to pose as his daughter and forged the photos into Victorian Age photos, putting them together with the photos shot by Lewis Carroll to shield himself and his fellow partners. He also kept some photos for pure entertainment.
- Three years later, in the present day, Emily's progression into the teens had made her lost Sheridan's "favor", and as such he kidnapped the nine-year-old Rosie Johnston from the local villiage fete.
- After finding her useless, Sheridan planned to sell Emily to the highest bidder as their sex slave after she became a teenager, whilst making Rosie her substitute, making him the only human sex trafficker in the franchise.
- When being confronted by the police, Sheridan showed no remorse over what he did and revealed that he sold children's photos to a group whom he claimed to be "hobbyists" that shared his freakish taste. With a sadistic smile, Sheridan only lamented to Morse when the latter confronted him about trafficking Emily, that Emily was utterly perfect and nice, much to everyone's disgust.
Trivia[]
- Whilst having a little screen time in the episode that contained several cases, Sheridan was technically the main antagonist of "Pylon" since he intentionally harmed two of the four victims in this episode.
- Anne Kirby's death was revealed to be an accident (with Mrs. Skynner actually tried to save Anne along with her husband right after her car hitting Anne accidentally).
- Anne's presumed killer was framed by Alan Jago's minions and later died of drug overdose.
- However, the missing of Rosie and the traumatic experience of Emily were both out of criminal actions, making Sheridan the only true villain in this episode besides the more recurring corrupt police officers.
- Sheridan is one of the very few culprits in Inspector Morse franchise that didn't kill anyone. Even so, being a remorseless kidnapper, a child rapist, a pedophile and even a child sex trafficker, by no doubt he is one of the most hateful and heinous criminals in the entire franchise.
- Sheridan is also one the only two Pure Evil villains in Inspector Morse franchise (alongside Matthew Copley-Barnes) that are neither murderers nor having any kill count, whether it's direct or indirect. He is also the only Endeavour-exclusive villain that is not a murderer.
