These twentieth century games are outstanding, they're like primitive! I'm so bored with the new games. Holographics and all of that. It's why lately I've been hooked on this old-school stuff. It's like bank, you know? But, I'm totally into it. Back then, this was all you needed. 2D graphics and five buttons. Same deal with hackers. You can hack into major systems in a heartbeat. Take Captain Crunch... Broke into the national phone system with a plastic whistle! Took him straight into the history books! But these days, we're dealing with micro pulse protection systems. It's harsh man, that's why I owe you big time for making this happen. Seriously, I had to try it out just once: Being a real terrorist on me!
~ Lee Sampson on his terroristic ideals.
Happy Halloween! Trick or Treat! I'm so tiny that no one can find, so great that no one can see. But you are all made of me to the marrow.
~ Lee's message to Mars, foreshadowing Vincent Volaju's plans.

Lee Sampson is the secondary antagonist of Cowboy Bebop: Knockin' On Heaven's Door. He is a teenage hacker who strives to become an infamous terrorist. Eventually, he meets Vincent Volaju, and joins him in his plans of wiping out all life on Mars.

He was voiced in Japanese by Yūji Ueda, and by Dave Wittenberg (who also voiced Kefka Palazzo) in the English dub.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He has no justification for his actions other than basic sadism and a desire to be "a real terrorist".
  • He joined Vincent Volaju in his plan to eliminate all life on Mars in order to become an infamous terrorist.
  • He hacked the server of a pharmaceutical company in order to locate the virus, which led to Vincent attacking a shipping freighter and killing the crew.
  • He stole a truck so he could have Vincent's virus fill the tank and implant a bomb, allowing Vincent to blow the truck up on a bridge, killing dozens of innocent people and infecting many others with a virus.
  • When Vincent shot a security guard dead while heading into the warehouse district, Lee coldly shrugged it off, showing how little he is concerned about human life.
  • He spread a message across Mars, informing people that he and Vincent ultimately intended on wiping out all life on Mars, later telling Vincent that "level 1 had been cleared" and he was ready to begin the next stage.
  • Though he does have comedic moments, they are not detracting as they just show more of his childish, yet sociopathic nature.
  • Though his death at the hands of Vincent was gruesome and painful, it was in fact well deserved due to Lee's willingness to participate in such a horrifying terrorist attack in the first place, showing how he lives for nothing more than pure destruction, carnage and death. Furthermore, he shows no remorse for his crimes and his last words are just him lamenting how he never got enough points on his video game.
  • Though he does seem to be somewhat grateful to help Vincent in his plans, it was most likely because he was finally able to become a terrorist thanks to him. Not much seems to indicate he had any care or loyalty to Vincent at all.
  • Although just about everything he does is under Vincent's orders, in the end Vincent couldn't have gotten as far as he did without him, and Lee does seem to enjoy helping Vincent destroy the world.

Trivia[]

  • Of all the Pure Evils in Cowboy Bebop, Lee has perhaps the least amount of screentime, appearing for under six minutes in the film.
