I am Knull. God of the void. Slicer of worlds. Long ago, when light invaded my kingdom, my symbiote children betrayed me, and imprisoned me here. At last, a codex is being created. It is the key to my freedom. It will unlock this prison. I order you to search the corners of the universe until you find this key. Find me the codex. And when I escape and annihilate every living planet and destroy my symbiote offspring, I will reward you... with your lives.
~ Knull.
Your champion has fallen… The planets will be mine… The King in Black is awake… I will kill your world… Everyone will burn… and you… WILL WATCH!!!
~ Knull revealing his plans for the future.

Knull, also known as the King in Black, is the overarching antagonist of the Venom trilogy in Sony's Spider-Man Universe.

He is a primordial Klyntarian deity and elder god as well as the creator of the Symbiotes. After being betrayed and imprisoned by his own creations, he spent most of his life searching for a key that could free him known as the Codex. Upon discovering the Codex's location, he sent the Xenophages to Earth to retrieve it.

He is portrayed by Andy Serkis, who also played David Robey in Luther: The Fallen Sun.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General/Background[]

  • He created the symbiotes to help him conquer and destroy many worlds in order to eliminate all life and shroud the cosmos back into darkness.
  • While imprisoned, he plans to resume his mission of destroying and slicing as many worlds and planets as possible after being freed. Toxin even made it clear that he will kill "everyone, everything" that stands in his way.
  • It's implied that he was abusive to his Symbiotes, which may likely be the cause of him being imprisoned in the first place and it is made clear they all feared him due to the immense power he withholds. To the point they retreated to Earth to shelter a "safe haven".
  • While he currently has very little screen time, through his dialogue, he was clearly sadistic and power-hungry and his actions caused the entire trilogy.

Venom: The Last Dance[]

  • After he sensed the Codex, he sent the Xenophages to find it, threatening them with their lives, showing he doesn't care about them. Because of this, he would be indirectly responsible for the number of deaths the Xenophages had caused.
    • When one of them tracked down Eddie and Venom, it endangered an airplane full of hundreds, which could've ended up killing them during its fight with Eddie and Venom had they not kicked it off the plane's engine.
    • Tracking Eddie and Venom in a nearby forest, it brutally eaten and killed three of Strickland's men alive. This would cause General Strickland to seek not only vengeance on Eddie and Venom due to attracting the Xenophage, but also kill them for the sake of ensuring Knull won't be free any time longer.
    • The same Xenophage would track both Eddie and Venom down on Las Vegas, where it came close to attack Ms. Chen, Eddie's long-time acquaintance.
    • Following Eddie and Venom's scent to Area 51's underground facilities, where it killed and ate several guards, scientists, and even Patrick Mulligan, who is fused with Toxin when they tried to protect Venom. Sooner or later, it would devour other Symbiotes and their chosen hosts during the midst of the battle, such as Rascal and Scorn.
  • Receiving the Xenophage's distress signal from Earth, Knull sent more on the way, which further escalated more deaths in battle. Such as Lasher, the symbiote that possessed Sadie Christmas.
  • Ultimately, he is indirectly responsible for Venom's sacrifice as he would assimilate all of the Xenophages and had them pour onto acid chemicals, including Venom himself, to destroy the Codex.
  • Despite Venom's presumed death and sacrifice, Knull still threatens to destroy all planets and have Earth burn to the ground while making the audience watch.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Pure Evil in the Venom trilogy to not be the main antagonist of the film he appears in.
  • He is the second iteration of Knull to be Pure Evil, after his original counterpart from the comics.
  • Although the SSU has ended, there's a possibility he may return in Marvel Studios upcoming Spider-Man 4. If he does, it is unknown how this will affect his status, potentially making him more or less heinous.
