“ | Morality is the first step toward cowardice. Your cowardice has doomed your whole world. I will hunt down and kill everyone and everything you have ever loved. Listen for it...soon you will hear everyone you love scream. | „ |
~ Klaw |
Ulysses Klaw is a major antagonist in the Marvel Universe, specifically serving as the secondary antagonist of the Black Panther franchise and a major antagonist in the Fantastic Four and Avengers franchises.
He was a physicist working on a device that converted sound waves into physical matter, but needed a metal called Vibranium to complete it. He attacked Black Panther's village, as they had a supply of it, and decimated the tribe with his sound weaponry, but Black Panther turned his own weapon on him, shattering Klaw's hand.
Klaw sought revenge and made a sonic glove weapon that he replaced his hand. He attacked Black Panther again, and was defeated by the Panther and the Fantastic Four. Frustrated, he leaped into his own sound converter, and was transformed into a being made of living sound. With his new powers he could project and shape sound-waves and was virtually indestructible.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- In his backstory, when denied the mineral rights to Wakanda's Vibranium mound, he had his men torch the nearest village, killing hundreds including T'Challa's father and the previous Black Panther, King T'Chaka.
- Since then, Klaw has repeatedly invaded Wakanda in hopes of revenge against T'Challa for injuring his hand (in self-defense), killing or imprisoning any who don't willingly submit, and sometimes even threatening to wash the entire country off the map in a tsunami of blood.
- In Fantastic Four Unlimited, he kills one of his own men by splattering him against the wall for failing to kill the heroes.
- He allied with the Sheenarians in a plot to conquer Earth.
- He performs false flag attacks during a war between Wakanda and Lemuria, trying to bring Armageddon (or "an end of days" as Klaw puts it) just to spite Black Panther. Said false flag attacks include destroying a ship with 1,000 men onboard called the Roussos, and launching missiles at Namor's imperial fleet.
- In Klaws of the Panther, he tries to blanket the Earth with a sonic wave that'll reduce all life into screaming, semi-brainless slaves for him to rule as a god. To this end, he transmutes a girl named Joya into a living battery called M.U.S.I.C. (Multiframe Universal Sonic Integration Codec), keeping her restrained and in pain the whole time Though he’s shown to have a genuine friendship with The Wizard, it’s too inconsistent with his characterization to disqualify him, since Klaw is ultimately a sadist driven by greed, and thirst for power, so his relationship with The Wizard is likely just professional.
- Though he has a Nazi father who died, Klaw never mentions him personally, indicating that he didn’t even care about him and that it doesn’t motivate his actions. He is motivated for revenge against T’Challa for injuring his hand, which isn’t played for sympathy, as Klaw brought this on himself when he invaded Wakanda and orphaned T’Challa, not to mention T’Challa was just trying to defend himself.
- Despite the high heinous standards of the franchise, Klaw stands out due to his high kill count and lesser resources when compared to other villains who have attempted genocide.
