Looks like you’ve crawled your last wall, Spider-Man. It was bound to come to this someday. [picks up Spider-Man] What a lovely couple you make. A shame I didn’t bring my camera, but I’ll always remember you just like this. Goodbye, Spider-Man. I’m going to miss outsmarting you.
~ Kingpin in the bad ending.

Wilson Fisk, better known as The Kingpin, is the titular main antagonist of the 1991 Sega video game Spider-Man vs. The Kingpin.

He is a notorious crime boss and the most powerful gangland figure in New York City who also served as the sworn enemy of the heroic Spider-Man; so much so that their conflict escalates as Kingpin planned to destroy Spider-Man's reputation by framing him for the theft and detonation of a nuclear warhead.

In the Sega CD version of the game, he was voiced by Peter Renaday.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Unlike his canon counterpart (and most other versions of Kingpin), this one has zero redeeming qualities or positive traits and is a outright sadistic, manipulative and treacherous crime lord.
  • He plants a bomb powerful enough to level New York in 24 hours (Sega Genesis/Sega CD versions) or powerful enough to release toxic waste to the harbor to destroy the environment (Master System version), before anonymously broadcasting to the citizens that Spider-Man is responsible for it (even showing a footage about it) and putting a 10,000 (Master System/Sega Genesis versions) or 500,000 (Sega CD version) dollar reward on his head for anyone who captures him. Said reward increases to 50,000 (Master System/Sega Genesis versions) or 1,000,000 (Sega CD version) later.
  • He hires Doctor Octopus, Lizard, Electro, Sandman, Hobgoblin, Venom (in all versions) and Mysterio (Sega CD version) to guard the keys to disarm the bomb and stop Spider-Man from getting them. Also, in the Sega CD version, he has both Typhoid Mary and Bullseye guarding the entrance to his cave lair.
  • He has either Venom (Master System/Sega Genesis versions), or "Spider-Man" (Sega CD version) kidnapping Mary Jane and threatens to kill her if Spider-Man don't let the bomb detonate in his name.
  • In the Bad Ending of the Master System version, The Kingpin makes another broadcast to New York, declaring that the bomb has detonated, and in response he has located Spider-Man and sent the police to detain him. In addition to this, he claims to have accepted a nomination in the upcoming mayoral election, and will restore law and order to the city, presumably succeeding in seizing power afterward.
  • In their final confrontation, The Kingpin has Mary Jane suspended over a vat of acid. One of two bad endings can happen:
    • If Spider-Man is defeated by Kingpin, he will taunt his enemy, lowering both him and Mary Jane into the acid.
    • If Spider-Man is unable to defeat Kingpin before Mary Jane is lowered into the acid, Kingpin will taunt his enemy over her demise as he is being arrested by the police, promising to meet him again.
  • In the Good Ending of the Sega CD version, Kingpin declares that Spider-Man is merely wasting the officers' time, as his lawyers will have him out by dinnertime, implying he will be liberated to continue his crimes.

Trivia[]

  • It is never revealed how Kingpin was able to frame Spider-Man for the theft of the warhead (all versions) and the kidnapping of Mary Jane (Sega CD version), particularly in the Sega CD version, where footage is shown of Spider-Man stealing it from a military base and from kidnapping her. Presumably, the footages were simply faked, or Kingpin had one of his minions (possibly Mysterio, given his mastery of illusions) disguise himself as Spider-Man during the theft and the kidnapping. If the latter was confirmed to be true, this would make him even worse.
  • This is the only version of Kingpin to be Pure Evil so far.
