“ | I'll surely wipe them out with my hand completely! | „ |
~ King Runeard. |
King Runeard is the posthumous main antagonist of Eiyukai Theatre Group's 2022-2023 stage production of Disney's Frozen II.
The grandfather of Anna and Elsa, and the king of Arendelle before their father, King Agnarr, King Runeard was a hateful king who, despising the Northuldran people of the Enchanted Forest, plotted to exterminate them so his legacy and power would remain unquestioned.
He was played by Tatsuya Sugita.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He treated his son Agnarr coldly, seeing him as an extension of himself and a representation of Arendelle rather than loving him as a son.
- He pretended to build the Northuldrans a dam to strengthen their waters as a gift of peace, but this dam was in fact built to cut off their water supply and destroy their lands so the people would be weakened and completely at his mercy.
- In time, he planned to eliminate the entire Northuldran people, leaving none alive to threaten his authority.
- He gathered his entire army for the celebration of the dam, planning an attack.
- When the Northuldran Chief, who was aware of the dam's ruinous effect on his people, implored Runeard to do something to help them, Runeard simply invited the Chief to move the discussion somewhere private, whereupon he murdered the unarmed and elderly leader in cold blood.
- He framed the Northuldrans as the instigators of this bloody conflict, causing the Arendellians to fight back. This led to a brutal and pointless battle with many casualties.
- During this battle, he left Agnarr completely unprotected, with his son getting caught in the crossfire and nearly dying.
- He died tackling a Northuldran off a cliff, killing the Northuldran with him.
- While he claimed in his villain song to want to "bring prosperity" to and "do the best" for Arendelle, everything he did was motivated purely by self-interest, as he manipulated his people into fighting a brutal, meaningless battle, all because he believed the Northuldrans would defy his will as a king.
