King Malbert (also simply known as Malbert) is the overarching antagonists in the 2008 rendered 3D film Igor by MGM (alongside Dr. Schadenfreude).
He is the greedy, selfish, tyrannical and manipulative king of Malaria. King Malbert also has Royal Guards, and hides the truth from the townspeople. He is the only person that Dr. Glickenstein would open his door. He is Igor's archenemy.
He was voiced by Jay Leno.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Before the story started, he created a ''weather ray'' that produced perpetual storm clouds that destroyed Malaria's crops and drove his people into poverty solely to implement his "Evil Inventions" plan and deceive them into believing they need to be evil to survive just to put himself in power.
- Since putting himself in power, he's been blackmailing the rest of the world into paying obscenely massive amounts of money so that they don't unleash whatever evil invention of the year is deemed the best and most powerful at the annual Evil Science Fair on them.
- Implemented the Igor Recycling Plant, which is used to chop up those considered "Igors" (people who were born with humps) when they're no longer useful and reuse their body parts. Later, he tried to send the main character into one. Also because the Igors are a species, this counts as genocide.
- He threatens Igor that if something happens to Dr. Glickenstein he will throw in the Igor Recycling Plant to use his hump for a speed bump.
- Despite some comedic moments (more likely a way to cover his deception), his actions are played with 100% gravitas once the titular Igor finds out about his true nature.
Trivia[]
- The filmmakers have admitted that the idea of a leader keeping his people in literal darkness as a means of controlling them, while not a direct accusation of George W. Bush's administration and their lack of transparency, was certainly a reflection on it.
