~ King Ignacio. |
“ | If I dam the river here, the lake would dry... then Lagobel will die! Oh, what a plan... how sweet! I'll liquidate them all! The kingdom, the princess! It's death... by... drought. | „ |
~ King Ignacio's genocidal plan. |
King Ignacio is the main antagonist of the 2013 musical The Light Princess, based on the 1864 fairy-tale of the same name. He is the cruel king of Sealand who seeks to conquer, and later destroy, the desert kingdom of Lagobel, for their resources.
He was portrayed by Hal Fowler.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He ruled Sealand with an iron fist, his people fearing him.
- When his wife, the queen, called him out for being a tyrant, he had her "disappear" under mysterious circumstances.
- This traumatized his son, Digby, into shutting down all of his emotions, becoming known as the Solemn Prince.
- He orchestrated the assassination of Lagobel's Crown Prince Alexander.
- Wanting to conquer Lagobel for its riches, he ordered Digby to strike as Lagobel was recovering after the loss of their Crown Prince.
- This led to scores of Lagobellans being massacred.
- He also ordered Digby to kill the innocent Althea, who was the new heir to the Lagobellan throne.
- When Digby fell in love with Althea, King Ignacio cruelly assured him that she would be killed, and set his son up with the latter's second cousin, Lady Delphine, to punish him further.
- Upon discovering the secret Lake between the two kingdoms, and that it fed into Lagobel, supplying them with the water they needed to survive, King Ignacio had a dam built to cause a drought and completely wipe out the Lagobellan people, savoring their impending doom.
- He shot and nearly killed his own son, Digby, when the prince destroyed the dam to save Lagobel.
Trivia[]
- King Ignacio is unnamed in the original 1864 fairy-tale and does not count as Pure Evil as the drought is instead caused by the jealous princess-witch Makemnoit.
