King Dedede (originally just called Dedede) is the main antagonist of the 2023 Plushtube series The Gem. He is a greedy, murderous businessman who desires nothing but complete control of the Kingdom. To do this, he desires The Gem, a magical artifact which contains a lot of power. He is a completely unfeeling murderer and manipulator, actually seeming to enjoy killing people and getting what he wants.
His voice is provided by JJnEverything, who also plays Mario and Bowser.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Dedede hired two rival bounty hunters to bring him the same Gem, but purposefully kept his identity a secret so the rival hunters would believe they were hired by separate people (when in reality Dedede hired them both.) Dedede did this because he wanted to watch them fight and kill each other, believing it to be 'entertaining.'
- Dedede ordered Meta Knight to kill Luigi, although this failed.
- Dedede kills Bowser in cold blood, and steals the Gem from him. He does this without any remorse, not even batting an eye to Bowser and instead turning to Mario, Luigi, and Kirby (who were watching.)
- While it turns out that Bowser had survived, Dedede still had the full intention of killing him, and the sadism shown during the 'murder' is still present.
- Dedede attempts to kill Mario, Luigi, and Kirby, as he already has the Gem and has no use for them.
- Dedede kills Luigi in cold blood, seemingly without a thought. He then laughs it off and takes the Gem, walking away like nothing even happened.
- Dedede takes over the Kingdom with the help of The Gem and (presumably) Meta Knight. He arrogantly declares himself the King, and assumes full power.
- He rules unfairly and with an iron fist, as it is shown that anyone who does not pay their tribute to him (including the poor or impoverished) will be sentenced to death.
- King Dedede presumably orders Meta Knight to either kill or capture Kirby, as evidenced by Meta Knight speaking to Dedede over a walkie talkie to tell him that the mission failed.
- King Dedede also orders the Among Us Police and Red to kill/capture Mario, due to the fact Red is seen to be loyal to Dedede, and wouldn't do something without his permission.
- King Dedede kills The Doctor, his own loyal servant, in cold blood, simply due to failing his assignment. This is not played off for comedy in any way.
- King Dedede constructs a weapon designed to cause mass destruction in the hopes of eradicating the Kingdom and the Resistance along with it. Upon obtaining the Gem and Elixir, Dedede activates this weapon and destroys the Kingdom, causing hundreds, if not thousands of innocent people to lose their lives.
- Additionally, he betrays his three main servants and purposefully has them killed in the explosion. While he did give Red his thanks for aiding in his plan, he also acknowledged that Red was going to die, and offered him a "glorified" death. It is unknown if this is out of genuine respect or not.
- He stations a spy to keep watch over the Resistance’s actions following the explosion. It’s likely he was behind Waddle Doo’s disappearance, or at least affiliated with the person who was behind it.
Trivia[]
- Dedede has the least screen time of any main character in The Gem.
- Dedede is the first Pure Evil to originate from a Plushtube channel (a genre in YouTube which specializes in content using plush toys). This would make Dedede a game changer for not just The Gem, but for the Plushtube genre as a whole, as most channels that fall into this category are typically lighthearted due to the usage of plushies to create videos with the purpose of entertaining viewers.
- He is also the first and only version of King Dedede to be Pure Evil.
- In the original script of The Gem, Dedede was intended to be an ally to the Mario Brothers, while Bowser's employer was going to be someone else entirely. This was changed during production, as the crew's supply of plush characters was limited.
