Keziah Mason, also known by her "secret name" Nahab, is the main antagonist of H.P. Lovecraft's 1933 short horror story The Dreams in the Witch House. She is a centuries-old witch and worshipper of Nyarlathotep who lived in the titular house during the 1600s.
In the Masters of Horror episode "H. P. Lovecraft's Dreams in the Witch-House", she was portrayed by Susanna Uchatius.
What Makes Her Pure Evil?[]
- She signed her soul over to the Devil (actually Nyarlathotep) in the 1600s in return for cosmic knowledge.
- She drove her gaoler insane when she was imprisoned during the Salem witch trials.
- In return for immortality, she agreed to abduct two children every year, one on Walpurgis Night and one on All Saints' Day, and sacrifice them to Nyarlathotep. By the time of the story she has been doing this for 235 years, giving her a total of 470 victims.
- She appears to Walter Gilman in his sleep with her familiar Brown Jenkin and transports him to a higher plain in an attempt to manipulate him into signing his name in the Book of Azathoth and become a servant of Nyarlathotep.
- Near Walpurgis Night, she puts Gilman into a trance and forces her to help him abduct an infant named Ladislas Wolejko before attempting to sacrifice him on Walpurgis Night, violently throttling Gilman when he tries to stop her.
- Although she is killed by Gilman, Brown Jenkin mauls Ladislas Wolejko to death anyway, meaning she still succeeded in sacrificing him.
- In the 2005 Masters of Horror adaptation she is even worse, as she has manipulated multiple men into sacrificing infants rather than just Gilman, and specifically forces Gilman to target the son of his neighbour who he's in love with rather than a random child.
