~ Kenneth and Travis' final interaction in Episode 5 of Sally Face. |
Archbishop Kenneth Phelps is one of two main antagonists (alongside Red-Eyed Demon) of the 2016 indie video game Sally Face.
Kenneth is a religious zealot, who is the father of Travis Phelps. He is the leader of the supernatural cult known as The Devourers of God, whose goal is to summon the Red-Eyed Demon on Earth, in order to successfully take over the planet. In the past, he is responsible for the murder of Sal Fisher's mother Diane, whom he initially intended to kill Sal due to a prophecy, prior to the events of the game.
However, Kenneth's efforts would soon be permanently thwarted when his son Travis killed him by stabbing, causing his plans of world hegemony to fall apart, at the cost of Travis' life.
What Makes Him Pure Evil[]
- He had no regrets about leading the Devourers of God. This makes him most likely responsible for every bad event caused by the cult since they have vast influence which extends to the government. Some of its members have done awful things that can be indirectly tied back to Kenneth for this, such as Mrs. Packerton kidnapping innocent students and using them as meat. Furthermore he bought the Red Demon to Earth, which caused massive death toll to Nockfell's population and around the world. His motives for his actions seem to be nothing more than wanting to overthrow God.
- He abused his son Travis his entire life, forcing him to repress his sexuality while also forcing him to attend his cult gatherings. It is heavily implied he physically abused him as well. This abuse would cause Travis to become an emotionally unstable bully.
- Brutally murdered Diane Fisher with his shotgun, who was protecting a child Sal in the past by guising as a "dog". In addition, her murder at his own hands kickstarted the present-time events of the story and Sal ended up getting permanently scarred from this incident.
- He bought about the infection of the residents of Addison Apartments with the Dark Capsule, which forced Sal to regretfully kill all of his loved ones, including his father and Soda, a child. Due to this, Sal ended up getting put on death row thanks to Kenneth using a disguised cult member to incriminate Sal.
- During this, he went so far in kidnapping Sal's friend Todd to be used a vessel for the Red-Eyes. While partially failed, due to Todd escaping, Kenneth was directly responsible for Todd being sent to a hospital, due to the Red Eyes' effects including loss of sanity and touch with reality.
- Kenneth went so far in gleefully gloating for Sal Fisher's death from execution, as he became determined to see the Plague of Shadows' infection spreading from across the world, with 33 percent of it almost lost entirely. He would later kidnap children and use them as vessels by gutting them out to strengthen the Void.
- Sends his minions to try to kill Ashley Campbell for interfering with his plans (not caring when his minions die.) When this fails, he allows the Red Demon to use him as a vessel to kill her.
- Before Kenneth's death by his son Travis, whom he was stabbed by his own son with a knife, Kenneth never was remorseful to begin with, and mocked Travis condescendingly how he was always a disappointment to his family and his betrayal was expecting, even mocking him that the ritual could not be stopped, which shows that he does not care for his actions, leading to his own downfall.
Trivia[]
- Although it is possible that he is loyal to his family, following in their footsteps, there is not enough confirmation to disqualify him from being Pure Evil. Furthermore, he is abusive to his son, so it is very likely not so.
