Kansa is the tyrannical and very outright depraved emperor of the Vrishni kingdom which he stole from his father. He serves as the archenemy of the Hindu god Krishna and is most famous for fighting him to the death.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • While he may have been born a demon and some texts say he was a human, he still had a moral agency nevertheless and had full control of his actions.
  • Unlike other demons he wasn't dimwitted or amoral at the slightest which makes him surpass the heinous standard.
  • Is not flaw embraced like Ravana who prays to God and even shows heroic traits to please them. Kansa demonstrates instead just a paranoia of death and shows no empathy to God whatsoever even wanting to kill Krishna who was Vishnu (that he fought in his past life).
  • Removed his father Ugrasena from the throne of Mathura by force, all for a lust of power that he craved.
  • Made individuals fight in an arena for his own sadistic amusement.
  • Pillaged many villages and kingdoms that he proceeded to enslave for Mathura.
  • Put his own people to strenuous labor.
  • Stole the riches and food from the people of Mathura all for himself.
  • Subsequently starved and deprived the shelter of his people for many months.
  • Was even hated by all of Mathura's people who treated him as a wicked soul.
  • Anyone who would dare speak against him would be hanged or smashed to the wall for their failure of obeying his regime.
  • When Narada told him that the eighth son of his cousin Devaki would be his death, in a fit of paranoia turned on his cousin whom he had loved dearly but shed that trait when he imprisoned Devaki and her husband Vasudeva.
  • Before sparing them even attempted to kill Devaki before Vasudeva told him to stop. Even after this he arrogantly gave them a fate worse than death.
  • Demanded that all of Devaki's children would be brought to him from birth upon the fact that he was treating them cruelly.
  • Due to his father Ugrasena protesting against the treatment Kansa was showing to his own cousin, threw him in a prison as well.
  • Smashed the 6 newly born babies of Devaki when they systematically came out onto a wall and had no remorse for the infanticides.
  • Sometimes the heads of the infants would crack open.
  • When Krishna is replaced with Yoga Mâyâ, he proceeds to kill the baby and although she turns into a celestial it demonstrates how far he is ready to go.
  • Still bent of getting rid of Krishna he sends several demons against the young Krishna, who he sees now as the destined 8th child that will be his doom.
  • Sends another vile demon Putana upon Krishna who plans to feed him poisonous milk and in other words silently murder him.
  • When he was tired of sending demons after Krishna, he invited both him and his elder brother Balram in a gladiatorial match to have them killed by his wrestler henchmen.

  • Not even the Gods showed any sympathy to Kansa which tells a lot due to Gods only turning against demons (even rarely) when they are really a threat.
