YOU. CAN'T. BEAT. ME! No one can.
~ Kano while torturing Shang Tsung before sadistically ripping his head off - his most famous quote
No one defeats Kano! No one defeats Kano!
~ King Kano catchphrase

Kano, also commonly referred to as King Kano, is one of the main antagonists in the Mortal Kombat Legends series.

He is once again portrayed as the ruthless second-in-command of the Black Dragon willing to do anything for a quick payment, who is being tracked down by the special forces and Sonya Blade, and plotting to take command away from Kabal, who is the Black Dragon leader. He initially works for Shang Tsung during his tournament to make Earthrealm lose, but he seemingly ends up killed during a battle with Sonya, Johnny and Jax.

However, Kano would return in the third film. Having been brought back but now as almost a full cyborg, Kano would end up using Kronika's hourglass to turn the world into a desolate wasteland where he would install himself as King and becoming leader of the Black Dragon.

He was voiced by Robin Atkin Downes, who also voiced Deathshead in Wolfenstein, Baron Zemo in The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Solaris in All-Star Superman, Abomination in the 2010 Marvel Animated Universe, Valak in The Conjuring franchise, Emperor Nefarious in Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Shinnok in Mortal Kombat Legends: Battle of the Realms. In Mortal Kombat Legends: Snow Blind, he is voiced by David Wenham.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

Background[]

  • After murdering Kronika, Kano acquired her hourglass and used it to reset the timeline over and over just for the satisfaction of the challenge of possibly losing. This is practically the same MK11 tower ending since we do see a glimpse of game footage in the hourglass.
  • Was already a horrible mercenary likely responsible for many deaths.

Scorpion's Revenge[]

  • Kidnapped Jax and brought him to the tournament where he would end up brutally tortured and nearly killed by Goro.
  • Allied with Shang Tsung just for a quick payment, not caring that his plans were to let his master destroy Earthrealm.
  • Sent demons to beat and nearly kill Sonya Blade.
  • Threatened to slit Jax's throat when Sonya and Johnny Cage defeat the demons.

Snow Blind[]

  • Used Kronika's hourglass to unleash an army of revenants onto Earthrealm that, despite the best efforts of the heroes, would end up decimating much of Earthrealm and wiping out the majority of humanity, save for a select few of survivors who formed villages in response to the mass destruction.
  • After installing himself as "King" of the Earthrealm wastelands, he would frequently attack small villages of survivors, killing off a large majority of them and anyone that refused to join him. The remaining survivors were then forced to join the Black Dragon Clan.
  • Kano would force people into gladiatorial arena matches that were fought to the death. At one point, he executes a woman for refusing to kill her other opponent.
  • When Shang Tsung attempts to kill and overthrow Kano, Kano brutally kills him. What's worse is that he has experienced this many times but takes great pleasure in what new tricks the sorcerer does next.
  • Kano would next take over another village, killing a large number of people and forcing the rest to submit to him. When one old man refuses to bow down to him, Kano has him executed on the spot.
  • When Kenshi tries to free the village and ends up captured by Kano, he takes the time to slowly torture him before executing him all for his own amusement.
  • Attempts to erase Sub-Zero from existence while cruelly mocking him.
  • While Kano admits that he has no soul anymore which is what renders him immune to Shang Tsung’s soul-stealing move. However, Kano was already a horrible criminal even before this happened to him, so it isn't disqualifying.
  • While Kano does seemingly show some kindness to his followers but it is never shown to be anything other than an act, and he shows no care when most of them end up dying through the course of the film.
    • Also, during his battle with Shang Tsung, he deliberately got a lot of them killed during the latter's attacks.
  • While he does have comedic moments, none of them ever detract from his villainy as it shows how completely sadistic he really is as opposed to being funny, and his actions are absolutely played very seriously.
  • While the series has a very high standard, Kano blows past the heinous standard of the series.
    • Being responsible for a large number of deaths throughout the film during his two village massacres as well as much more offscreen, forces people to fight for his own amusement, trying to have Kenshi executed slowly and painfully, and is ultimately the one that unleashed the revenants that wiped out most of Earthrealm.
      • While Shinnok is technically worse in scale, nobody is as bad as Kano in sheer vicious cruelty and number of deeds.
