Kai Chisaki, also known as Overhaul, is the posthumous overarching antagonist in the 2019 My Hero Academia Archive of our Own fanfiction, The Yakuza isn't That Bad. He is the leader of the Shie Hassaikai and Izuku's most hated enemy.

Like the original counterpart, this version of Chisaki still desires the eradication of all Quirks across the globe and tortures Eri in order to use her blood for the completion of the Quirk Erasing Bullets.

However, he dies too early when an enraged Izuku kills him by piercing a knife into his neck while covered in Eri's blood, dying a powerless, quirkless man who'll never hurt Eri ever again. Despite his death, his actions are what got Izuku to indirectly become the new leader of the Shie Hassaikai and continue his legacy the right way, further kickstarting the events.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He likely committed the same crimes as his original counterpart (although some are left omitted), though his most notable was to torture Eri by killing her and reconstructing her repeatedly for her blood to create the Quirk-Erasing Bullets in order to eradicate all Quirks across the world.
  • His overall goal was to send a full supply of Quirk-Erasing Bullets to shady and villainous organizations to take out the heroes first and then begin his plans for cultural genocide against all Quirk users in order for the Yakuza to maintain power above all else by any means necessary. He even intended to make contact with the League of Villains.
  • It is presumed that he uploaded a video of having one of his bullets tested on a Lion Quirk user to show the effects, which said Quirk user was turned into a human against his will. This would later catch Izuku's interest in eradicating Quirks in the first place, although not in a malicious way, this would still make Chisaki responsible for his anti-villainous path.
  • Before hiring Izuku, he thought about trying to kill him at first if he didn't have anything interesting or because he didn't like him, coming off as a rather petty excuse to do so.
  • Throughout the following months and before, he put Eri through a childhood of abuse where he kept her segregated in her room as a prisoner and traumatized her to the point she felt unsafe around anyone else approaching her before adjusting to Izuku where they have a father-daughter relationship.
  • In spite of Izuku improvising every Quirk of every member of the Shie Hassaikai's, Chisaki still insisted on making "repercussions" on them just in case. This demonstrates his ungratefulness for Izuku's work and that he wasn't above killing and reconstructing his minions based on his doubts.
  • He once again tortured Eri in front of Izuku this time, who loved her like a daughter, as a way to demonstrate the creation of the Quirk-Erasing Bullets. This ultimately led to his early downfall where Izuku's hatred for him and protectiveness of Eri aimed him the chance to kill him and erase his Quirk as a result.
  • In a final desperate attempt, he tries to kill Izuku just for trying to stop him from further torturing Eri before his Quirk got erased due to the very knife Izuku pierced on his neck having Eri's blood coated with it.
  • Even after his death, his genocidal intentions are still carried on after Izuku took his place as the new leader of the Shie Hassaikai, even if it was unintentional. Although the methods Izuku used were less villainous and tamed compared to Chisaki's terrible and abusive methods, the intentions Izuku carried will still cause genocide even if no one will die.
  • Despite treating Izuku with respect and allowing him to continue being with Eri, this is only based on pragmatism because he saw him as more useful compared to his grunts, especially the Eight Expendables, for his Quirk analyst techniques and the fact that he was Quirkless demonstrates the very candidate Chisaki was looking for to represent his views. Even his allowance to let Izuku be with Eri was to ensure the girl never left and he wasn't above threatening to kill Izuku, even if it's not true since he was still useful to him, however, he wasn't above trying to kill Izuku before and after he hired him, especially on his final moments before his death.
  • Due to the fanfic's low heinous standard since villains like Shigaraki, All For One, and Dabi don't stand out due to their heinous actions never being involved in the mainstream series' future arcs, Chisaki is the one who sets it and his attempted cultural genocide and torturous abuse of Eri helps him pass the baseline with ease despite having to appear for three of the earliest chapters.
  • Unlike the original counterpart, this version of Chisaki lacks the sole redeeming quality of caring for his adoptive father and boss of the Shie Hassaikai since it was omitted from the fanfic. Therefore, his motives here only involved wanting to eradicate Quirks due to his delusional beliefs of seeing them as a "blight" and have the entire yakuza become the top of the world after he's done eradicating all Quirks alike instead of doing so to repay his boss.

Trivia[]
