~ Josh meeting Megan online. |
"Josh" is the main antagonist of the 2011 found-footage horror film Megan Is Missing. He is the abductor, torturer, rapist, and murderer of Megan Stewart and Amy Herman.
He was portrayed by Dean Waite.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Although not revealed, it is highly likely that the real Josh was murdered by the person wearing the hoodie behind him, who then claimed to be "Josh" towards Megan, and that his identity was stolen in order to prey on Megan and Amy for the purpose of catfishing.
- This is further evidenced when he told Amy that his name isn't really Josh, which makes a clear indication that he has never revealed his actual name at all to both her and Megan.
- He manipulated Megan into getting her on his side, before kidnapping her from behind the diner after luring her into his trap.
- He tortured and murdered Megan, going as far as to upload pictures of it on the internet.
- He mocked and belittled a suspicious Amy on webcam, even threatening to go after her and her mother.
- He stalked Amy when she recorded herself under the bridge.
- He kidnapped Amy and imprisoned her inside his basement, chained to a wall and nearly naked.
- He forced Amy to eat dog food before brutally raping her.
- He stuffed Amy into a barrel with Megan's rotting corpse before burying her alive and leaving her to die, after pretending that he was going to let her go, completely refusing to show her mercy.
- It's heavily implied he targeted more girls afterwards as the police didn't find him by the end of the movie, though it's possible that he was arrested before he was able to kill again as he was under police investigation, though given his elusive tactics, he’s proven impossible to catch due to the ineffectiveness of both local police and the FBI. In addition, they also ultimately failed to provide total protection to Amy and her relatives, which led to her grisly demise as a result.
- While Megan mentions being raped by her stepfather as well as a camp counselor at the ages of 9-11, Josh makes those two experiences look like a slap on the wrist compared to his own sadism.
- While Megan is Missing could be considered an exploitation film, the film has a message warning parents about online safety, with the film's creator Michael Goi explaining that he made the film's content so explicit not for the purpose of shock value, but to have a realistic depiction of an internet predator so viewers take the film's warning seriously and understand just how dangerous and cruel they are.
