Joseph Crackstone is the overarching antagonist of the first season of the Netflix series Wednesday. He is the ancestor of the Gates family and a puritan who despises outcasts and wants to wipe them all out from Jericho. Crackstone accused the Addams family's ancestor Goody Addams of witchcraft and was killed by Goody by being locked in a coffin inside a crypt.
He is also the arch-nemesis of Goody Addams, the ancestor of Wednesday Addams.
He was portrayed by William Houston, who also voiced King Aldrich in Amphibia.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He lead his fellow Pilgrims on a campaign against outcasts for no logical reason, only for supremacy.
- In 1625, he even locked Goody Addams and dozens of other various innocent outcasts inside a flaming building to be burned alive. While Goody survived by escaping, she was the only one able to do so, as Crackstone had chained all of her acquaintances, alongside her mother, to the ground of the building, preventing them from trying to escape.
- Even in his death, Crackstone influenced generations of his descendants with the same supremacist ideals that outcasts are "godless creatures". His genocidal crusading legacy is responsible for molding both Laurel's family (like her father Ansel, and brother Garrett) and her into genocidal psychopaths like him to hate Outcasts, even with Tyler Gaplin as affiliated.
- All of Laurel Gates' actions happened just as an act of service to Crackstone's supremacy, including the deaths of many innocents normies and Tyler Galpin's torture which lead him into releasing his Hyde.
- He is also partially responsible for causing Garrett's death, as Ansel, an ancestor of his, forced his son to poison all the outcasts at Nevermore Academy similarly to how Crackstone burned a building full of outcasts. This resulted in his death from nightshadow poisoning, which also made Gomez Addams incriminate himself to protectively save Morticia Frump from prison and infamous disgrace.
- Upon his revival, he immediately stabs Wednesday Addams in the chest upon his revival just because he noticed she shared her ancestor Goody's blood (though he also seems to mistake her for Goody due to their similar appearances). He then left her to die in the crypt, which Wednesday would have had Goody's spirit not intervened to save her, but at the cost of never being able to communicate ever again.
- He treats Laurel Gates, his own descendant who brought him back to life, with massively cruel disrespect, threatening to cut her tongue out if she doesn't silence herself while in his presence, and never thanks her for reviving him. He merely allows her to kiss his ring and otherwise wants nothing to do with her.
- While revived, he threatens, injures or presumably kills dozens of Nevermore students while they are powerless to fight back. While doing this, his hatred for Goody runs so deep that he instantly stops taunting two Nevermore students to fight Wednesday instead when she appears.
- He seems to enjoy all of the heinous acts he commits, smiling proudly or, while undead, giggling as he does so.
- Despite having to compete with Laurel Gates and Tyler Galpin, he easily stands out due to his short amount of screen time and many gruesome acts, such as mass murder and genocide, under the umbrella of his own supremacist agenda, being also indirectly responsible for the main plot.
Trivia[]
- He is the only villain in the entire Addams Family franchise overall to be Pure Evil as the rest of them are either too bog-standard, incompetent, played for laughs, have redeeming qualities, fail the heinous standard or a combination of some of the previous preventions.
