The Joker is one of two main antagonists (alongside Enchantress) of the Damned Batman comics, serving as the titular main antagonist of the 2008 graphic novel Joker and as the overarching antagonist of the Batman: Damned mini-series, first with DC Black Label. He is a somewhat darker and more realistic depiction of the traditional Joker, who is bent on reclaiming his criminal empire alongside Jonny Frost.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He sadistically massacres dozens of both fellow gangsters and innocent civilians while rebuilding his criminal empire; his two worst kills are when he:
- Skins Monty (a former henchman) alive just for not keeping a stronghold on the Joker's reputation while he was locked up in Arkham Asylum.
- Murders a random elderly couple in their bed, and then takes a nap on said bed with the couple's blood-covered corpses right underneath him.
- He forces Two-Face and the Penguin to work for him by threatening to feed the latter to a baboon and the former to Killer Croc.
- He stabs one of his own henchmen to death with a broken glass bottle in a fit of anger.
- He rapes Jonny's ex-wife Shelly as punishment for the former nearly selling him out to Two-Face, cruelly taunting the couple afterwards by asking Jonny if it makes them even after telling Croc to drop Shelly off somewhere and give her some money.
- While he was initially somewhat friendly to Jonny, that gets subverted in the end when he hits and shoots him in the chin just for being boring.
- Overall, this is easily one of the most brutally despicable incarnations of the Joker to date, going on a "rape, pillage, and burn" spree in Gotham for his own amusement while also lacking any comedic moments.
Trivia[]
- The graphic novel's author explicitly wanted to make Joker scary again to remind audiences that he's still a total monster despite how "cool" or "fun" his chaos can be, and it definitely shows.
