Jonathan Liebling aka Johnny Favorite is the main protagonist villain of the 1987 live-action psychological horror film Angel Heart. He is a Satanic cultist who traded his soul to the Devil for fame and fortune and who later tried to rescind on the deal by performing a ritual on an innocent soldier named Harold Angel.
He was portrayed by Mickey Rourke.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Is a satanic cultist who traded his soul to the devil in exchange for fame and fortune as a jazz singer and crooner.
- When he didn't want to fulfill his end of the bargain, he conspired with fellow cultists to kidnap and murder a young soldier who looked similar to and was the same age as Johnny named Harold Angel in a human sacrifice ritual.
- He did this by cutting Angel's heart out and consuming it to steal his soul and identity, and also seemed to have killed a chicken for the ritual. This worked almost too well, as he later suffered from amnesia while overseas, and what was left of Harry was able to take over as a result.
- When the devil reappears twelve years later, disguised as a man named Louis Cyphre, Johnny slowly begins to resurfaces, starting by killing Dr. Albert Fowler by shooting him in the head with a revolver, and staging his death as a suicide.
- When Harry goes to Louisiana to find Johnny, the latter reemerges yet again, and kills former band mate Toots Sweet by castrating him and feeding him his own genitals.
- Later murders fellow cultist Margaret Krusemark by cutting her heart out. It's implied that he did this as an intentional message to her father that he was back.
- Has sex with his own teenage daughter Epiphany while having full knowledge of their blood relationship, and then later rapes her before killing her by shoving a gun up her vagina and pulling the trigger, leaving her son/his grandson an orphan in the process.
- Furthermore, according to Epiphany herself, she said that Evangeline Proudfoot told her that Johnny was "as close to true evil" as her mother ever wished to get.
- Murders the lawyer Hermann Winesap by throwing his head into a fan and decapitating him.
- Drowns Ethan Krusemark to death in boiling hot water.
- When he finally resurfaces once and for all, he shows no remorse for all that he had done despite Harry Angel's despair over it, and when the arresting police officers tell him that he's going to burn for what he has done, he chillingly agrees, and adds "in hell" to the sentence, further showcasing him as an ice-cold murderer who seems to be proud of his hedonistic evil.
