John Lumic is the main antagonist of the Doctor Who episodes, "Rise of the Cybermen" and "Age of Steel" as well as the posthumous overarching antagonist of "Army of Ghosts" and "Doomsday".
He was portrayed by the late Roger Lloyd-Pack.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He converted innocent people into Cybermen, a fate worse than death as they live on forever as emotionless automatons unless slain; a fact he was fully aware of.
- Had ear pieces hand made for all the people he ruled over to read and control their minds and actions.
- Among his first victims to become Cybermen were homeless people.
- He had one of his workers executed because the latter told the former they needed the Geneva Convention's approval on creating the Cybermen because he knew they would reject it.
- When the president of Great Britain forbade the decision for Cybermen to be made, Lumic exacted revenge by having cybermen he had on hand invade Jacqueline Tyler's birthday party (something the president was present for) and had numerous people including the president murdered. He also made a cruel joke about "crashing the party". All the survivors, except the doctor, Rose, Mickey, and Peter were taken to Lumic's base to become Cybermen
- Tried to have the entire world become metal and all of its people Cybermen.
- When Mr. Crane destroyed his life support system, a Cyberman brought Lumic to be converted to the Cyber-Controller. Lumic was reluctant, ordering it to not convert him into a Cyberman. So that he can fully experience being human before turning into a Cyberman. Instead of being converted immediately. This shows that Lumic knew his “upgrades” were painful and unpleasant.
- Even after being converted to a Cyberman himself, he maintained his depravity.
- Ignored the Doctor's attempts to convince him to stop his plan.
- Tried to kill the Doctor and his companions in his last moments.
- Although he has the misfortune of dying and trying to make life without pain, his crimes go above and beyond his tragedy given that he knew what being a Cyberman would be like even before becoming one.
- While he calls his Cybermen his “Everlasting Children” it's obvious he doesn't love them as people. But views them as extensions of himself, since he created them, and the fact that they were immortal.
- Even after his death his influence is still felt:
- In the series 2 finale, his Cybermen number five million upon entering the Doctor's world, and they try to take over, and convert everyone there to Cybermen. They also battle the Daleks which caused even more casualties.
- He inadvertently caused the Doctor to lose both Rose Tyler and Mickey Smith, the former being his love interest.
