You broke your golden rule, Frankie! You gave a %&@# about something that wasn't you. And now you gotta pay.
~ Jigsaw.
Drown the kittens, kid. Give ya three seconds before I waste a hole into your mom's face. Capisce? Do. You. Understand? Awful memory this one. Traumatic even. Me, I got a similar tale. My old man—real piece o'work—kicked me out of the house when I was ten, for complaining when Santa didn't show up. Know what he told me on my way out? "You ever need a helping hand...you'll find one at the end of your arm."
~ Jigsaw to his son Henry.

William "Billy" Russo, better known as Jigsaw, is a vicious criminal mastermind from the Marvel universe. He mainly appears as the archenemy to the violent vigilante Frank Castle, and is the main antagonist of the Punisher franchise.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Before becoming Jigsaw, he was a mob hitman who helped orchestrate the infamous massacre of Frank Castle's family at Central Park, thus driving Frank down the path to becoming the Punisher. He takes full responsibility for this in The Punisher Vol. 3 #4, saying he and the Punisher practically created each other.
    • He also assassinated witnesses and then bombed Frank's house some days later, which surely inflicted a fair amount of collateral damage judging from how many people were currently outdoors as well as the size of the explosion.
  • He's a serial killer, targeting innocent civilians, cops, minor criminals, etc. in an attempt to frame the Punisher (or just avenge his own ego). He's even occasionally brainwashed other people into committing these killings against their will.
  • He cripples one of the Punisher's love interests, Leslie, out of sheer spite.
  • He tries to snipe Jessica Jones and her infant daughter.
  • He aids Reverend Samuel Smith in his goal to contaminate the world's oceans with a drug that'll sterilize most of humanity, thus attempting nigh-omnicide so they can rule over whatever's left in Lucifer's name. While Jigsaw appeared to be unaware of the Rev's actual plans (thinking that they were just going to use the drug to extort the United States government during a conversation with the Rev), he was still willing to test the drug by dumping it in New York City's water to conquer the entire country, and engaged in mass murder and slavery on the Rev's behalf while also repeatedly expressing jealousy of the Rev being the "Chosen One" of Lucifer (actually Belasco).
  • Despite claiming to have been cruelly abandoned by his father at the age of 10, Jigsaw himself is a domestic abuser as well, thus preventing him from being tragic.
    • To be specific, excluding the beatings, Jigsaw once forced his son Henry to drown his own pet kittens under threat of killing his mother Susan. And in the present day, despite spending most of Punisher: In the Blood trying to make amends for his treatment of Henry, Jigsaw nearly lets him fall to his fiery death on the rooftop of a flaming building just to buy himself time to kill an unconscious Punisher, despite Henry saving Jigsaw from the the knife Punisher throwed just a minute ago.
  • In Punisher Vol. 3, after the Punisher's fake execution by electric chair, he wore a costume similar to Punisher's and began to hunt down and ''punish'' those responsible for his supposed death out of sheer spite just because he couldn't tolerate that someone else besides him killed the Punisher.
  • While undeniably psychotic, he still has a moral agency because not only would his crimes realistically require at least some impulse control (e.g. taking over an entire prison from the inside), he also takes great pride in being the evil bastard that he is, therefore preventing his criminal insanity from being truly mitigating.
  • Overall, he's easily the Punisher's greatest villain. And despite Earth-616's massive heinous standard, Jigsaw manages to stand out with the lack of resources since he's just a low-level gangster without any superpowers.
