Jason Vaugn is the main antagonist of the Turning Red fanfic Turning Red: Secrets of the Panda. He is the corrupt head of the PCA, a government organisation tasked with hunting down the giant red pandas that inhabit Toronto. However, he is soon revealed to have more nefarious schemes involving Mei and her family.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
Past[]
- Took over command of the PCA by accusing the original leader, Mike Smith, of fraud, leading to the latter getting fired from the group.
- Made a deal with a demon, promising to eliminate Mei and her family. However, he only did do to further his own goals, and was already planning on betraying him once he got what he wanted.
- Rather than only hunting down those that were believed to be dangerous to the city, as was the original intent of the PCA, Jason started targeting all members of Mei’s family, and uses his family’s history as an excuse to justify his own actions.
- Has engaged in numerous crimes, including murder, attempted murder, poaching, and human trafficking, making him a wanted man in different countries around the world.
- Tricks the rest of the PCA into hunting down all members of Mei’s family by making them think he’s doing it for the good of the city.
- Killed several of Mei's family members prior to the events of the story.
- Despite the fact some of his hatred for the giant red pandas stems from an ongoing family feud between his own family and the Lee family (which would give him an understandable motive if not for the fact he is primarily motivated by greed), this is not played for sympathy as he only uses it as an excuse to justify his own actions as he does not care for his family one bit.
- Abused his sister simply because he (along with their father) viewed her as being too weak.
Present[]
- Asks Mei’s friends for her location with feigned politeness, and then attacks Miriam after the refuse to answer.
- Is highly prejudiced towards Mei and her family, viewing them all as freaks.
- Despite deciding not to kill Mei’s friends at school, he only did so for pragmatic reason as he didn’t want to lose his false reputation as a well-meaning agent.
- Shoots Mei and Miriam at school, after learning the former had lost her powers. Had Xia not intervened, he would have killed the two of them then and there.
- Has Jin tied to a chair and violently interrogates him regarding Mei’s whereabouts.
- Ask Tyler’s dad for Mei’s location, and then threatens to kill Tyler if he finds out his dad had been lying to him.
- Indirectly tricks Xia into thinking her mother, Ping, had been killed.
- He is shown to be abusive to his subordinates, such has when he angrily berates Howard for not managing to find Mei.
- Attacks Mei and tries to get her to reveal where Xia went.
- Kidnaps Mei from his house and takes her onto a freight train, where he throws her into a metal container.
- Indirectly causes Howard’s death, showing no care when he does so.
- Tries to sell the giant red pandas at an auction, revealing that he never wanted to wipe them out, and that he only cared about the profits, having his guards torture them in the process.
- Tries to justify his actions by claiming he, Xia and Mei are no different to each other.
- Kills one of his own guards and takes his weapon from him.
- Has his corrupted red pandas attack the auction after his true colours are revealed, not caring who is killed in the process, including his own men.
- Tries to kill Mei and Xia during a car chase.
- Abducts Mei’s friends and family, using them as bait to lure Mei and Xia into a trap.
- Tries to kill Mei and Xia in a murderous rage after they had interfered with his plans too many times.
- Shoots Mei in the stomach, seriously wounding her, and Mei only survived due to being in panda form at the time.
