Young lady, I don't give a damn about what you want. This isn't about you! This is about the Schnee family name, and your apparent insistence on dragging it through the mud!
~ Jacques to Weiss about her supposed desires.
If you think I’m one to forget anything, girl, then you’ve misjudged the man your father is.
~ Jacques to Weiss, and his most famous quote.
I always knew you were a good scientist, Arthur... but I never knew you were such a good salesman.
~ Jacques agreeing to help Arthur Watts.

President Jacques Schnee is a major antagonist of the anime-influenced animated web series RWBY, as well as its manga adaptation of the same name. He was the President of the Schnee Dust Company, a one-time member of the Atlas Council, the husband of Willow Schnee, and the father of Winter, Weiss, and Whitley Schnee, as well as the arch-nemesis of both his daughters.

He is voiced by Jason Douglas in English, and by Madoka Shiga in the Japanese dub.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • He has no care for anyone's well-being, and those who oppose him take him very seriously, even his own family members.
  • He runs the Schnee Dust Company, in which he recruits a large number of miners and makes them work in dangerous mining conditions. They were even shown to be deadly, as one mine exploded and caused multiple deaths (including those of Ilia Amitola's parents).
  • Many negative events surrounding the Schnee family and Faunus can be traced directly back to him and have had steep consequences, even after his death. Notably, he indirectly instilled a biased view regarding Faunus into Weiss that strained her friendship with Blake for a time and his company had a role in Adam Taurus' fall from grace.
  • Despite the series having a high heinous standard with villains like Salem, Adam Taurus, Roman Torchwick, and James Ironwood providing steep competition, Jacques still stands out, as his abuse and mistreatment towards his family makes him quite realistic, and his treatment of laborers is explicitly shown to be awful given the numerous injuries and deaths it causes to the SDC miners. On top of that, his company is part of the reason why Adam and Ilia turned into villains, as Adam's eye was scarred when branded with an SDC logo when he was a worker and a mine explosion in an SDC Mine had killed Ilia's parents, showing that his company has an impact on the series.
    • In addition, he has less resources than the four aforementioned villains, as Salem is a powerful and immortal magic user with command over the Grimm in which she can easily produce en masse; Adam is the leader of a terrorist organization; Roman is a renowned crime lord with access to numerous airships and advanced technology; and James is the general of a vast army and rules Atlas (the second largest kingdom in all of Remnant). In contrast, Jacques is just an ordinary man with no Semblance, magic, or weapons, being a mere CEO of a company that can easily be restricted by James, which is enough to make up for his smaller scale of heinousness compared to the other antagonists in the series.

Background[]

  • He married Willow Schnee only for her fortune and convinced Nicholas Schnee to give him full control of the SDC.
  • He was a terrible father and husband, as he put Willow through enough domestic abuse to turn her into an alcoholic and he shows absolutely no care for his children, most notably Weiss. One time, when Weiss wanted freedom and independence from her father, Jacques had her fight a big suit of armor powered by a Grimm, and this would leave Weiss with a scar on her right eye in the aftermath. While he does pass the heir to the SDC title to Whitley, not only was this out of pragmatism, but it was done right after he demoted Weiss and didn't allow her to stand up to him, showing he only uses his son as an extension of himself.
    • Furthermore, in some scenes you could see that Whitley seemed sad because of the verbal abuse his father gave to Weiss and in the next volumes, he doesn't even make arrangements to get his father out of prison which would imply that Whitley didn't even like his father and little by little he became a better person away from his influence.

RWBY[]

Volume 4[]

  • After the Fall of Beacon, he had an argument with General Ironwood about his decision to place an embargo on Dust exports to the kingdoms and intended to call Weiss back to Atlas without showing any regard for her well-being.
  • He berates Weiss for rightfully (and understandably) calling out the elites who were mocking Vale's losses and grabs her wrist to forcefully make her stop "embarrassing the family", which caused a Grimm to be summoned and endanger everyone at the party until Ironwood calms it down.
  • He showed no remorse for making Weiss unintentionally awaken a Grimm and went to her bedroom to blame her for the incident, and even when she put her foot down and chose to keep fighting in the name of her family, Jacques snapped and slapped her across the face before taking her heiress title away and passing it to Whitley (albeit pragmatically), leaving Weiss so distraught that she broke down crying.

Volume 7 & Volume 8[]

  • He tried to guilt-trip Weiss in front of Team RWBY by reminding her of her childhood.
  • He gave Arthur Watts his code to hack into the Atlas network and rig the election in his favor in order to win, causing a massacre that killed most of Robyn’s supporters and eventually led to Penny being framed for the incident.
    • Although Jacques was shocked when he learned about Watts's actions later, it was only because of the damage that it had done to his reputation, as he did not show any real remorse for his involvement and even tried to play the victim card to save himself.
  • After winning the election by force, he manipulates everyone into believing he truly won and hosted a dinner party to celebrate before Weiss exposed him.
  • His actions sparked riots across Atlas, leaving it vulnerable to attack from the Grimm, and eventually leading to its destruction.
  • After being arrested, he tried claiming he was manipulated, refusing to take accountability for his actions.
    • Additionally, when he said he was not a murderer, he turned towards Qrow, who was wrongly accused of murdering Clover Ebi.
  • While his death of getting blown up by Ironwood is horrific, it isn't played for sympathy by any means and he more than deserved it for his heinous actions. Even Weiss, Winter (and presumably Whitley) agree that they are better off without their horrible father.
