I'm a demon. The most perfectly powerful creature there is. Human beings are like cockroaches to my kind. Easy to kill.
~ Jackal assuming his Etherious form.

Jackal is a major antagonist in the Fairy Tail franchise, serving as a major antagonist of the Tartaros Arc. He is one of the demons from the Books of Zeref and one of the Nine Demon Gates of Tartaros. He was a heavily sadistic and psychotic demon who aids Tartaros to revive E.N.D while seeking to cause as much chaos and mayhem as possible.

He is voiced by Takuma Terashima in the Japanese version (who additionally voiced Desil Galette), and by Ricco Fajardo in the English version.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Despite being a Demon, Jackal has moral agency as he chose to attack and sadistically make people explode.
  • He bombed the Magic Council and took great pleasure in killing its members, along with 119 others.
  • He blew up a large amount of a town just to demonstrate his power.
  • He made Lucy choose between the life of Michello and a pregnant woman that he took hostage.
  • After losing to Natsu, he prepared to take a whole town with him as he self-destructs.
  • He casually killed one of his teammates, Lamy, by blowing up her face because he was annoyed when she was talking.
  • While he did apologize to Kyoka for his defeat at Natsu's hands, it's only because she is his superior.
  • While Jackal died off-screen, it's not played for sympathy, it's for satisfaction for what he did to the heroes and people he murdered.
  • While he's not as heinous as Acnologia, the latter has higher resources.

Trivia[]

  • In Volume 45, at the end of Chapter 386, Hiro Mashima mentioned Jackal in the Afterwords section. He states that he was surprised that Jackal became popular among the readers and did not expect him to be. He also describes Jackal as "an awful guy".
  • Jackal is the only Etherous to be Pure Evil.
