Casper, make me invisible.
~ Iori's frequent order to Casper and his catchphrase.
Cas-per? Hey, what're you doing?! You and I, are a TEAM!
~ Iori's last words before his abused Daemon Casper eats him alive after being freed from his control.

Iori Kusanagi is a supporting antagonist in the Netflix original anime My Daemon. He's a ruthless Daemon user and a bounty hunter who tries to kill the unique Storage Daemon Anna and his owner Kento Tachibana. He fails in his mission, but his actions leave a long-lasting impact on Kento.

He is voiced by Kengo Kawanishi.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He at one point bought a Casper Daemon and planted a shock collar on him to control him and use his abilities in his bounty hunting. Like other Daemon Users, he's extremely cruel and abusive to Casper, shocking him when he fails to do as he says while only treating him as a tool despite knowing that he's sentient like all other Daemons.
  • He likely hunted down and captured or killed other humans or Daemons throughout his career.
  • Tried to injure and potentially kill a man who tried to steal his wallet by having Casper drop him from a high distance from the ground, even though he'd already gotten his wallet back and could've turned the man in to the police. When he gets caught in the act by the cops, he has Casper turn him invisible and flee the scene.
  • After seeing a bounty request to bring the Storage Daemon Anna to the Peace Organization dead or alive, he attempted to kill Anna, her owner Kento Tachibana, and 3 young bullies from Kento's school in a staged hit and run that was only thwarted by Anna summoning a slab of absorbed concrete into his trucks path to knock it off to the side. He even expresses anger about how he failed to "kill (them) like a gangster", confirming he meant to kill all 4 children despite only being requested to kill Anna.
  • Chases Kento and Anna throughout the city, trying to drop steel pipes on them at one point with a crane, at after trying to strangle Kento when Casper briefly captures him before being distracted by Anna summoning expired flour bags to blow up in his face.
  • When a prejudiced nun insults him for his profession as a Daemon User, he has Casper turn her clothes and then her skin invisible and forces her to look at her own exposed nervous system in a reflection to terrify and traumatize her out of spite. Even though the nun in question was being rude towards him out of bigotry towards Daemons, this reaction was still extremely disproportionate and needlessly cruel on his part.
  • Frustrated at Kento and Anna's continued evasion, he has Casper turn the surrounding buildings invisible to see where they're hiding, showing no regard for the terrified and panicking citizens, a few of whom could've gotten hurt or worse due to the buildings they were in suddenly disappearing around them.
  • Cornering Anna and Kento in an abandoned building, he takes time toying with and tormenting them, beating them and tossing and kicking Anna around out of sadism. After Kento's been beaten to a bloody pulp, he moves to stab him to death in front of Anna, only for Anna to absorb the knife into her storage space and launching it into his mouth.
  • After Kaoru arrives to save Kento and Anna, he pulls his knife back out of his mouth and throws it in Anna and Kento's direction to kill them, causing Kaoru to jump in front of the knife to save her sons life and being killed as a result. Although he hadn't intended to kill the woman, he still shows no remorse for her death, even chuckling sadistically at Kento's despair at seeing his mother die in front of him.
    • Killing Kaoru had left a permanent impact on Kento, who was not only orphaned by his mother's death and potentially homeless, but his desperation to see his mother again led to him having Anna absorb her body into her storage space and travel to Hamata to find the Restoration Daemon (who he believed was a Daemon that could rewind time) in the hopes of reviving her, setting in motion the events that would lead to the Restoration Daemon resurrecting Pandaemonium and nearly wiping out the human race.
  • When his liberated Casper appears to take revenge on him, he lies by insisting that he and Casper are a team despite having remorselessly abused him throughout their "partnership". This shows that he's a coward among many other things.
  • His death by being eaten alive by Casper is never played for sympathy and he ultimately deserved it for what he did to Kento and Anna.
  • Despite Genjiro Houjou and the Restoration Daemon committing far worse crimes than him, their resources were higher making the comparison unfair. He manages to pass the heinous standard with his low resources by nearly killing 3 children in his first attempt on Anna's life, tormenting and abusing Kento and Anna out of sadism and spite, and killing Kento's mother. The lasting impact of his murder of Kaoru gives him more personal villainy towards Kento that the other villains in the series.
  • Unlike Kiriko, Genjiro, Kokonoe, and Uruga, Iori has no redeeming qualities.
