Iemon Tamiya was a legendary samurai and the main antagonist of the "Oiwa" legend, a classic Japanese ghost story. Like many such tales it involves a tragic woman and a hateful consort, though even by the standards of this legends, Iemon stands out as a particularly brutal example of that consort.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He committed several off-screen robberies.
- In contrast to his samurai status, Iemon never showed honor to the samurai code.
- When Oiwa's father demanded that he stay away from his daughter, he killed him and lied to Oiwa that a stranger was to blame and that he would avenge her father's murder so she could be with him.
- He planned to kill his sick wife and abandon their newborn son.
- When Oiwa instead of dying was disfigured, he ordered a man named Takuetsu to rape her so he could divorce her alleging infidelity, although the man did not rape Oiwa, finding out what her husband did to her led to her suicide.
- When a servant suspected that he killed his wife, he killed him and threw his body into the river.
- He killed his new wife and parents-in-law.
- He tried to kill Oiwa's brother when he tried to avenge her death.
