~ The Hunter's last words, before burning to death. |
The Hunter is the overarching antagonist of the Nelvana series of Babar, serving as the main antagonist of the first five episodes and the posthumous overarching antagonist in later episodes.
This version is darker than his book and movie versions as he seeks to kill all the jungle's animals, knowing they are sapient beings.
He was voiced by John Stocker, who also voiced Graydon Creed in X-Men: The Animated Series.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He knew full well the animals he hunts are sentient beings and kills them anyway out of greed and sadism.
- He murdered Babar's mother in cold blood.
- Murdered an elephant that tried to give himself up.
- It's clarified that his actions are against the laws set by human society, which means he defies even his kind.
- After Babar stops him the first time, the Hunter led an army of poachers to attack Babar's kingdom to get revenge on Babar.
- He rejected any of the elephants' attempts to make peace and Babar's message that he forgave him for killing his mother, even trying to kill their peace envoy after shooting their white flag.
- Despite the Rhino Kingdom making their intentions clear to the poachers that they will remain neutral in the war against the elephants, he tries to kill them anyway.
- He ultimately decides to burn the whole jungle if he can't have the animal's ivory himself; with him gloating, all the jungle's animals will be killed.
- He doesn't care about his men beyond being his pawns and even endangers the lives of his men captured by the animals by trying to set the whole Jungle on fire.
- Rather than give up, the Hunter spends his last moments ranting about how he'll never stop trying to kill every last one of the animals.
- Even after his death, Babar suffered from PTSD due to the hunter's actions.
- He has no redeeming qualities, nothing sympathetic about him, and no remorse for his crimes.
Trivia[]
- His Nelvana counterpart is the only version to be Pure Evil. In addition, he's the darkest character in the Babar universe and the only one to be Pure Evil.
- Since his book version is a one time character and never seen again as he possibly moves on with his life, his book version cannot qualify for Pure Evil due to him being generic, not showing any signs of knowing the elephants are sentient beings and not being taken seriously. His Babar: King of the Elephants version also cannot qualify for Pure Evil as well.
- As given by him burning to his death it can be implied he could be dragged to hell, where he would get eternal damnation and will suffer for all eternity.
