“ | And you, James Gordon, belong in the past. The world has moved on while you and people like you were living your sad, normal lifes. I was pushing the boundaries of evolution. The future belongs to my children and that future is... here. | „ |
~ Strange taunting Detective James Gordon |
Professor Hugo Strange is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside Ra's Al Ghul) in the TV series Gotham, being one of the two main antagonists (alongside Theo Galavan) of the second season and a major antagonist for the rest of the series.
He was portrayed by BD Wong.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- Used Pinewood Farms, a place intended to help people, to perform unethical human experiments on people which often ended up turning them into monsters.
- This makes him responsible for the creation of many of Batman's future villains, such as Firefly, Mr. Freeze, Clayface, Solomon Grundy, Jane Doe and Bane.
- Hired Matches Malone kill his former friend Thomas Wayne when he got to close to discovering the truth without any regret or remorse.
- Continued to perform more human experiments on people at Indian hill for months at least.
- He sent a resurrected and brainwashed Theo Galavan as Azrael to kill Jim Gordon after he started getting close to the truth, making him responsible for what he did.
- At the end of the season 2, he attempted to set off a bomb in Arkham Asylum that would have killed thousands.
- Helped the Court of Owls set off a virus engineered by Jervis Tetch, which makes people infected out there darkest sides. He later helps make a cure when it is able to benefit him.
- Helped Nyssa al Ghul install chips in Edward Nygma and Leslie Thompkins' brains that make them able to be mind-controlled all for his own self-interests.
- This resulted in Nyssa using Nygma to destroy a helicopter from Wayne Enterprises that was delivering resources that would help countless civilians and bomb Haven, which killed 300 people.
- Although Strange has had comedic moments, he and his crimes are taken very seriously in the series by all other characters.
- Despite assisting the other protagonists with their requests, such as curing Butch Gilzean/Grundy for Tabitha Galavan and creating an antidote for the Tetch virus, they were only done out of self-preservation and never done for selflessness. Also, in addition, Strange initially refused to give the antidote since he would then have nothing to bargain with, meaning he is more than willing to risk the lives of others to protect himself.
Trivia[]
- This version of Hugo Strange, along with his original incarnation, The Batman incarnation and Arkhamverse incarnation, is one of the four versions of Hugo Strange to be Pure Evil.
