The unnamed Captain of the Holy Sol's Shadow is an antagonist in Fire Force. He indoctrinated a group of orphans into being assassins and abused them into believing they were worthless in order to follow the faith Holy Sol. One of his victims was Five-Two, whom the Captain personally hated and abused the most, causing him to become the criminal known as Joker, who later came back to his original headquarters and killed his former tormentor.

He is voiced by Tomoyuki Shimura in the Japanese version and John Gremillion in the English dub. The latter who also voices Ryo Ogino in Buddy Daddies.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He indoctrinated young orphans into the Holy Sol's Shadow, abusing them into believing that their lives were worthless and only the Holy Sol religion mattered, so that they would be left as mind-broken followers who listened to the captain's every order.
  • His order mainly killed lots of Infernals with indifference, whom were people transformed into monsters against their will.
  • Though he is mostly emotionless, he shows great pleasure in making others suffer.
  • While holding and enforcing a strong belief in his religion and his philosophy that people are only a collective, he was shown to be hypocritical of his own philosophy multiple times, as he deliberately cut off the collective from Five-Two for deserting the group, and he died because he left his group behind and consequently got himself killed.
  • He felt a strong hatred towards Five-Two due to his individuality and curiosity being unbreakable, so he treated him much more cruelly than the other recruits.
  • During training, he beat up Five-Two, ranting about his spite towards him for thinking he's special and saying that he was worthless.
  • He burned Five-Two's watch after finding out it was the only keepsake of his family, saying his only parent was the Sun God and he had no family.
  • He stripped Five-Two naked and beat him, then said that he would defile him to the bone, heavily implied that he raped him as the Captain was naked as well. What makes this worse is that the Captain is the only character in the series who has committed rape and he did so when Five-Two was underage.
  • When Five-Two escaped and was adopted by a family who treated him well, the Captain had the family murdered while Five-Two was away, and said that he would make sure that Five-Two left the collective so he will make sure that he will never connect to humanity again. This led to Five-Two falling to despair and becoming Joker.
  • When Joker returned as an adult and revealed to the Captain that he was Five-Two, the Captain was so eager to kill Joker that he left his men behind at Benimaru Shinmon's mercy. He believed that Joker would never win, but underestimated him and was deservingly killed by his former victim.
  • While the Captain of the Holy Sol's Shadow has a very minor role in the series, not interacting with any of the main protagonists nor main antagonists and having to compete with the White-Clad (whom intend to destroy the planet as well as abusing children themselves), the Captain still stands out for making the most use of his resources for the little time he is shown, such as intently breaking once-sane orphans into mindless thralls and being the only rapist in the series, and was also responsible for turning Joker into who he is.

Trivia[]

  • He is the only Pure Evil in Fire Force.
  • Due to being revived near the end of the series, it is unknown if he had a change of heart like everyone else from the previous events, especially Rekka being an example of this. However, chances are unlikely given his beliefs and if there were any confirmation about what happened to the Shadow Captain afterward, it would strip him of his Pure Evil Status.
