Him is the main antagonist of the 2017 psychological horror film mother! written and directed by Darren Aronofsky.
Initially appearing to be an ordinary poet suffering from writer's block, at the end of the film, it is revealed that He is Aronofsky's take on the Abrahamic God and mother is his take on Mother Nature.
He was portrayed by Javier Bardem, who also played Anton Chigurh in No Country for Old Men and Armando Salazar in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is aware of the cycle, but He allows it to continue without end just to feed His innate desire to be worshiped.
- He drove several incarnations of mother insane leading to them burning the house down. After this, He simply reclaims the diamond from inside them to start things over.
- Him allows waves of people to enter the house uncaring that it was getting desecrated.
- When mother angrily reprimands Him for not having relations with her, He initiates it in a scene reminiscent of sexual assault.
- He goes against mother's wishes and gives the crowd their baby. This leads to the crowd accidentally killing him and the most infamous moment of the film that being the crowds of worshipers eating the entrails of the baby.
- While He does intervene when mother is beaten savagely, He insists that they forgive the crowds reinforcing that He still craves their worship and praise even when His son was murdered and cannibalized.
