Harvey Vaugn is the main antagonist of Turning Red: The Panda Conspiracy.

He is the head of the PCA who tries to have Mei and her family killed, and have her head as a trophy. He is also a notorious poacher who has hunted several species to near extinction

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Throughout his life, he hunted individuals of several species and mounted them in his house as trophies, causing some of them to become endangered in the process, simply to fuel his own sadism.
  • He had his own wife murdered by a rogue member of Mei’s family simply because she didn't agree with his actions or views, and later used this to manipulate his daughter into helping him hunt down Mei and her family.
  • He, alongside Jason Vaugn, abused his daughter, Sarah both physically and psychologically since he found her to be weak, showing no care for either of them in the process.
  • Has Sarah thrown out onto the streets after she calls him out on his behaviour, forcing her to fend for herself with no-one around to help her.
  • He has Tyler Ngyun-Baker murdered, and frames Mei and Xia for it while posing as a well-meaning police officer
  • After Mei reveals her abilities to both him and Sarah, he has her arrested and takes her to be executed by firing squad
  • Prior to Mei's attempted execution, he mocks her by claiming she is dangerous despite the fact he knows she isn’t, and is only using this as an excuse to justify his attempted murder of her.
  • Pursues Mei, Xia, and Sarah through the streets Toronto during a car chase in an attempt to have them killed.
  • Has Mei's mother, Ming, murdered, causing Mei the break down in grief, showing no care for her in the process.
  • While he does back off after Mike tells him to, this is only for pragmatic reasons and not out of any moral standards, and is shown to be disgusted at him.
  • Assaults Mei and Xia at the latter’s house in an attempt to kill them both.
  • Shoots a fox from within his house simply because he was getting impatient over waiting for any member of Mei's family to walk in range of his rifle.
  • Fantasises about turning Mei and Xia into trophies.
  • Has the animal's at Xia's sanctuary killed for no reason other than his own amusement
  • Assaults Sarah at his house, asking her if she's hunting down Mei and her family like he wanted, only letting her go after she tells him she's trying to (although she’s only doing so since she’s afraid of him).
  • Places Mei and Xia on the top ten most wanted list purely to spite them, offering a hefty award for their capture. Because of this, Mei is unable to contact her friends and family due to the risk of putting them in danger.
  • Tries to kill his own daughter at the police station, only stopping after being attacked by Mei.
  • Manipulates Sarah into killing Xia, and cuts the latter's panda spirit in half, killing it permanently since his sword is the only weapon capable of doing so.
  • Tries to shoot Mei, and only lets her go when Sarah tells him to (this is purely for pragmatic reasons, however).
  • Attacks Sarah at Xia's house, cutting her with his knife for letting Mei go and prepares to kill her until Mei intervenes.
  • Fights Mei and Sarah, and reveals that he plans on having Mei either turned into a rug, or have her head mounted on his wall.
  • He shows sadistic glee during his fight with Mei and Sarah, gloating over how much he’ll enjoy killing them.
  • He taunts Mei at several points during their fight, accusing her and her family of worshipping false gods while being a follow of a demonic entity (making him a hypocrite).
  • Towards the end of the fight, he gives up on trying to turn Mei into a trophy, and instead threatens to kill her and leave her body for the birds to feast on.
  • His actions and motives are shown to be so heinous, that even the other PCA members are disgusted by him.
  • While his unseen murder at the hands of Rebecca Hughes is gruesome (as evident by his corpse which Mei and Sarah find), it is not played for sympathy as Mei and Sarah both show disgust over him, but rather to establish just how dangerous Rebecca is.

Trivia[]

  • He is one of three Turning Red fanon villains to be pure evil, alongside Jason Vaugn and the Lead Scientist.
  • While both he and his son Jason are both pure evil, Harvey is undoubtedly the worst of the two as, whereas Jason is motivated by greed and paranoia, as well as a desire to remain in power, Harvey is motivated by pure sadism, showing enjoyment in killing others (including other species), tries to have animals and people (mostly members of Mei’s family due to their red panda transformation) turned into his personal trophies to display in his house, and abuses his own daughter simply because he views her as being too weak.
