The word defeat is NOT in my dictionary!
~ Great Scientist Zaien quoting Great Professor Bias.

Great Scientist Zaien is one of Space Empire Zangyack's top scientists and the main antagonist of Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger episode 30.

What Makes Him Pure Evil[]

  • Is only loyal to the Zangyack for the resources to conduct his horrible science experiments. While he assures Insarn that he isn't after her job, he is either lying or is only doing so for pragmatic reasons.
  • He is known for being the one who converted Joe Gibken's friend Sid Bamick into the blindly obedient cyborg Barizorg, with no memory of his past life other than his skills in swordsmanship. He does so by first subjecting him through cold blooded torture and transforming him painfully while he's still conscious. He even made it irreversible which means he is stuck that way until he (Barizorg, not Zaien) was killed.
  • Indirectly caused the emotional pain that Joe Gibken suffers from, especially after he finds out that he can't save Sid due to his transformation being deliberately irreversible.
    • While Zaien didn't do this intentionally to hurt Joe specifically, their final confrontation indicated that he doesn't care if it did.
  • Only sees the complete Barizorg as a project he's proud of and a tool for the empire rather than a person. Even Warz Gill cared about him as an only friend (to the point of being genuinely devastated when he dies), something Zaien does not have.
  • Goes along with Warz's plan to have him convert physically fit humans into more Barizorgs. When that failed, he tried converting the non-blue Gokaigers before Joe intervened.
  • While not in the same level of heinous as Basco, Zaien is taken very seriously. He's even worse than any Action Commander and Imperial Guardsman due to having a real impact to the story with zero redeeming traits.

Trivia[]

  • He is an homage to another Pure Evil Sentai villain, Great Professor Bias, as episode 30 is the Liveman tribute. He even shares his voice actor. (though arguably Bias was much worse)
  • One could argue that him turning Sid into Barizorg was more of Warz Gill's idea (He even taunted Joe about it before Zaien was known about) and it was also his idea of having Zaien convert more people. While true, Zaien is still responsible for this as he went along with the plan with no remorse. Also, Warz was not there to oversee the torture of Sid that Zaien inflicted to conduct his expiriment. So he likely just wanted him brainwashed, and had no control over whether or not Zaien made the cyborgification irreversible. Add to the fact that Warz ended up caring about him as a person (brainwashed or not) while Zaien doesn't see him as one, and Zaien still has the qualifications of being Pure Evil.
