NOTE: This page is only about his Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis and New 52 incarnations, as his Rebirth incarnation was not voted as pure evil. Thus, only his Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis and New 52 versions should be put here.

This! Is only! The beginning! Of my rape of nations! We'll tear you from your beds and behead you all on your perfect lawns! Raze your cities! Eat your children!
~ Gorilla Grodd after killing and eating all of Superbia.

Gorilla Grodd is a major antagonist in the DC Universe, serving as one of the two main antagonists (alongside Professor Zoom) of The Flash franchise and a major antagonist in the Justice League franchise.

He is a super-intelligent gorilla with telepathic abilities who desires to overthrow humanity and conquer the world while also seeking to obtain the powers of the Speed Force. He is one of The Flash/Barry Allen's most prominent and dangerous enemies and the archenemy of Solovar. He appears as the main antagonist of multiple storylines, including the JLA: Ape and the Angel miniseries.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • He has a penchant for enslaving and breaking people's minds through his telepathy.
  • He's a genocidal racist against humanity, and he is often shown brutally murdering them.
  • Despite being a gorilla, he literally eats people and hates bananas.
  • Despite Grodd's claims of protecting apes from humans, it's clearly just propaganda since he's shown brutally killing his fellow gorillas for petty reasons.
  • Overall, he's the only villain to ever give Wally West nightmares, and it's easy to see why.

Pre- and Post-Crisis[]

  • Sometime in the past, he brainwashed one of two random European explorers who discovered and visited Gorilla City into killing the alien who originally gave Grodd and his fellow gorillas their sapience, resulting in the gorillas beating said explorer to death.
  • He orchestrates the assassination of King Solovar, the current leader of Gorilla City.
  • He cripples Hunter Zolomon with his bare hands, treating him like a toy he could break and thus playing a pivotal role in Hunter becoming Zoom.
  • He killed and ate the entire population of Superbia (which consisted of hundreds, according to Knight), renaming it "Gorillatropolis".
  • According to Squire, Grodd ranks #3 on the latest "Global Most Wanted" list for no less than 18 serious attempts to exterminate all traces of human existence.
  • He kills Monsieur Mallah and the Brain, beating the former with the latter.
  • In the Flashpoint timeline, he slaughtered half of Africa and even brainwashed a child soldier into killing his own friends (who were also children).

New 52[]

  • He kills his own father and then eats his brain for knowledge. He also plans to do the same with Aquaman and the Flash so he can take over the world.
  • He killed most of the Elders in Gorilla City, putting the sole survivor in a torture device to make Central City look like a radioactive crater from the outside as gorillas invaded it.
  • While connected to the Speed Force, Grodd kills King Solovar with a throwing star and then goes on a homicidal rampage towards both humans and fellow gorillas in Central City until they finally submit to his dictatorship. He then razes the city out of boredom, as shown when the Rogues return from a mission in Keystone.
    • Even worse, during said rampage, when one of the elders asks if Grodd would kill every man and ape to make his point, Grodd just responds "every single one," showing he's not even above committing omnicide if he had to.

Trivia[]

  • Only the Pre-Crisis, Post-Crisis and New 52 versions of Grodd are Pure Evil, as his Rebirth incarnation cares for his late mother.
