Without warning, our doom fell from the sky. From whence it came we do not know. The horror shrieked its name: GOREA. Gorea is power beyond reckoning and evil unrelenting. The universe has not known terror such as this. At first we thought Gorea was a comet. It crashed upon our planet and emerged as a vapour, it mimicked our cellular structure and replicated itself in solid form. We have seen Gorea alter its atomic structure between polarizing states. Our scientists believe it may also possess other SHAPE-CHANGING abilities. We deployed our deadliest weapons to defeat the beast. To our horror, every weapon was somehow used against us. The war only lasted a few standard galactic months. Even with the galaxy's most powerful technology at our disposal, we fell like dry grass beneath the blade. For Gorea was immune to even our most sophisticated weaponry, while we were defenseless against its relentless attacks. It devoured our people's life energy and grew even more powerful from such sustenance. Death swept across our worlds, and we despaired. We feared not only for the extinction of our race and our galaxy, but the possibility that the evil would sweep across the entire universe, annihilating all in its path. We gave our lives to confine the foul monstrosity known as Gorea. Do not seek this creature unless you have the means to DESTROY it.
~ Alimbic lore describing Gorea.

Gorea is the main antagonist of Metroid Prime: Hunters.

It is an enigmatic being, whose origins remain shrouded in mystery, ventured into the Alimbic System and initiated a destructive rampage, leaving nothing but devastation in its wake. The resourceful Alimbic civilization, recognizing the grave threat it posed, devised a cunning plan to confine this menacing entity within a secluded realm known as the Oubliette. However, even trapped within the confines of this pocket dimension, the formidable entity managed to cunningly transmit a message with the sinister intention of tempting unsuspecting individuals into unintentionally liberating it from its captivity.

What Makes It Pure Evil?[]

  • It cunningly deceives the bounty hunters, tricking them into releasing it from its confinement. Using its long, sinewy appendages, it drains the hunters' energy to rejuvenate itself after gaining its freedom.
  • It plans to eliminate all forms of life across the entire universe in order to acquire and harness their abilities for its own benefit.
  • Although its motives and origins remain mysterious and obscure, and despite being perceived as an ancient cosmic entity, the evident presence of a sadistic personality within it highlights that it is not simply a Generic Doomsday Villain. Instead, this suggests that it possesses a free moral agency and is aware of its own actions.
  • Despite that the destruction of the Alimbic race is not explicitly shown on screen, this does not diminish the sheer villainy of the antagonist. This is primarily because the game provides a glimpse into the consequences of its planet-destroying capabilities, as depicted in a captivating cutscene. Within this scene, it obliterates the entire Alimbic race, resulting in the devastating decimation of their once-thriving civilization. The motive behind this heinous act is none other than insatiable greed and unquenchable thirst for power, as it seeks to seize and appropriate the Alimbics' remarkably rich cultural heritage.
