~ Gozo Kirihara shifting into God Neros. |
God Neros is the leader of the criminal organization known as the Neros Empire and the main antagonist of the 1987-1988 Tokusatsu series Choujinki Metalder.
He rules over a consortium of various crime syndicates and underworld organizations divided into four armies: the "Yoroi Army" comprised of cyborgs and humans in bulky armor, the "Battle Robot Army" comprised of robot soldiers and assassins, the "Monster Army" comprised of beings who have been genetically engineered with the DNA of various animals and insects, and the "Armament Army" comprised of heavy arsenal robots.
His public persona is that of Gozo Kirihara, a billionaire philanthropist who serves as chair of a powerful financial firm known as the "Kirihara Konzern" (which is really a front for his illegal activities). His true identity however is that of former IJA technical major Kunio Muraki, who once worked on the Metalder project headed by Doctor Koga and was convicted at the end of World War II for war crimes, only for him to escape the US and get plastic surgert before working to lay the foundations for his criminal empire.
He is portrayed by Shinji Todo. As God Neros, he is voiced by Takeshi Watabe.
Personality[]
As evidenced by his name, God Neros possesses a very big ego, openly proclaiming himself to be a god. A ruthless and cold man, he seeks only to expand his personal power and cares very little about the dozens of lives lost due to his actions. He is also highly intelligent and excels at manipulating global affairs to his advantage, such as conspiring to rig the stock market in favor of himself and his wealthy colleagues.
Despite his true nature, Neros is very charismatic. He keeps his underworld dealings hidden from public eye and puts on the persona of a benevolent philanthropist in his human form as Gozo Kirihara, with very few people knowing anything about his past as a Japanese war criminal.
Neros is also very unforgiving when it comes to his treatment of his subordinates, often having those who fail him or defy his orders put to death. At the same time, Neros is not overzealous in this regard and will spare a subordinate who still proves useful to him, such as Barbery or Coolgin.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- During World War II, as a major in the IJA, Kunio Muraki conducted grotesque experiments on prisoners of war, which led Doctor Koga to insist on his removal from the Metalder project and for him to be charged with war crimes when World War II ended.
- Used his criminal connections to stage wars and famine around the world, causing tens of thousands to suffer in order to sink the stock market and profit off of weapons sales.
- Ordered Doctor Koga's murder after he discovered the Neros Empire's existence.
- In order to get at Metalder, Neros would sometimes have his men target Metalder's friend and love interest Mai.
- Once brainwashed Mai's father Shingo into becoming the next Tagsky so Metalder would be forced to fight him.
- When Metalder and Top Gunder storm his lair, Neros activates its self-destruct and leaves his remaining minions inside to die while he escapes disguised as his right-hand man Coolgin. He would also have the real Coolgin pose as him and force his loyal secretaries, K and S, to stay behind and die in the fortress' explosion.
- In his final confrontation with Metalder, Neros summoned the spirits of Metalder's past enemies in order to psychologically torment him and damaged Metalder so he would never be able to revert to his human form again, leaving him an outcast from society.
