NOTE: This page is only about Gmork's film incarnation as his original book incarnation was not voted Pure Evil, thus only the film version of his info and crimes should be put here.

Gmork is a major antagonist in the 1984 film The Neverending Story. He is a nihilistic wolf who serves the power behind the Nothing, which is destroying Fantasia. When the boy Atreyu sets out on a quest to stop the Nothing, Gmork is sent to kill him to ensure Fantasia's destruction.

He was voiced by Alan Oppenheimer.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • He serves the power behind the Nothing and is trying to help it destroy Fantasia, which would kill everyone in it, and is aware that this would also destroy the imagination and free will of humanity.
  • He only serves those behind the Nothing out of a selfish lust for power and control, so it's not genuine loyalty.
  • He hunts Atreyu in order to kill him, knowing that Atreyu is the only one who can stop the Nothing and that killing him will ensure Fantasia's destruction. He almost kills him in the Swamps of Sadness and continues to track him throughout the film.
  • When he meets Atreyu at the end, he threatens to tear him to shreds despite not realizing who he is and having no reason to think he's a threat.
  • He gloats over his actions, telling Atreyu that he serves the Nothing because those with no hopes are easy to control, and he relishes the fear and despair the Nothing is causing them. Even though Fantasia's destruction would mean his own death, Gmork doesn't care and seems to think this is worth it.
  • He tries to kill Atreyu when the boy reveals his identity.
