Gilmer is a minor antagonist in the Foundation series by Isaac Asimov. He is the brutal warlord responsible for the Great Sack of Trantor, the capital of the former Galactic Empire.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He sacked Trantor purely for the glory of it, bombing it with his fleet, reducing the planet to a wasteland and killing dozens of millions.
- He drove out the current emperor, Dagobert VIII, and his family, and named himself "Emperor of the Galaxy", killing anyone who didn't acknowledge him by this sham title.
- While he invaded the Imperial Palace, he set his men on the rest of the world, leading to an endless number of murders, robberies, great fires set for the sadistic thrill, and rapes of the native Trantorian population.
- Just one medical clinic received 42 rape victims; 37 female and 5 male.
- While callously eating and drinking up all the Trantorian resources, Gilmer watched his men ravage the city planet on his televisor screens, getting a kick out of seeing his "dreams come true".
- Despite formerly loving his consort, Billye, he grew tired of her and threw her out, ordering the terrified Imperial servants to fetch him a Trantorian girl to be his new concubine, regardless of her consent.
- He decimated Trantor so completely that, in just one month, billions of people not directly slaughtered by Gilmer wasted away in the ruins, leading the population to dwindle rapidly from 40 billion to just around 100 million.
- While Gilmer's name was forgotten by history, the Great Sack would be recognized as the event that killed the Galactic Empire, leaving its capital world as a dead husk.
