I Am Ganon! Mighty ruler of the demon tribe! A surprise to think you still had this kind of power...but it matters not!
~ Ganon before killing Zelda XVI.
Life is just food for my demon army! Their life force only serves to make me stronger! With this Triforce, I shall consume all!
~ Ganon taunting Zelda XVII.

Ganon is the main antagonist of the 1987 manga series, The Legend of Zelda Yū Mishōzaki and its 1991 sequel, Zelda II: The Adventures of Link, both serving as adaptations of the 1986 & 1987 NES games respectively.

The earliest portrayal of Ganon, the franchise's main villain, to ever be portrayed as a fully monstrous villain, Ganon is a ruthless eldritch conqueror and ruler of the Demon Tribe. Once sealed by the original Princess Zelda in the Great Temple, a fraction of Ganon was able to leak from the seal to claim the Triforce and use it to turn Hyrule into his hellish domain.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Is a vicious conqueror that seeks to turn Hyrule into a hellish wasteland where it's people become fodder for his demons to feed on.
  • When the seal weakened, Ganon has Link's father, Rune, attacked who later died from the injuries he had endured.
  • He then kills Queen Zelda XVI, the mother of both Link and the current Zelda, in front of her daughter's eyes while gleefully taunting her on how 3 years from now, he shall return with more demons to bring Hyrule to ruin.
  • Unleashes his demons to run rampant and kill everyone they see near the borders of Hyrule, threatening the lives of scores of people.
    • To show how dangerous they were, the demons attacked Hyrule's legion of knights, in which they massacred half of the entire troops very shortly, the other half only barely managing to survive.
  • Captures Princess Zelda XVII after taunting her about killing her mother years prior, using her life as a bargaining chip for Link to gather all the pieces of the Triforce and bring them to him at Death Mountain.
    • He even shows Link a vision of him ripping Zelda apart should he fail to appear to show he is not bluffing.
  • Ganon seeks the power of the Triforce to consume all of Hyrule and wipe out all life in it to strengthen himself and his men.
  • Does not show concern for the deaths of his men, only that Link has thwarted his attempts to stop him.
  • Upon his seeming destruction, Ganon takes the form of Link's Shadow to resurrect himself, going to the house where Link's friends and his aunt lives to try devouring their heads off and then absorb their power.
  • Has the survivors of his army lay waste to any village across Hyrule.
  • Seeks to devour Link and Zelda to gain the power to resurrect himself.
  • His final plot is to drag all of Hyrule down into the Underworld so that he and his demons can devour the entire population.

Trivia[]

  • Due to Ganon and Link's Shadow being the same character in this adaptation, this is the first and so far only version of Dark Link to date to be Pure Evil.
