Ahah... Link! I have been waiting for you! Heh heh heh... I was hoping I could make Zelda vanish before your eyes. Behold! The last moment of Princess Zelda!
~ Ganon, as Agahnim, banishing Princess Zelda to the Dark World.
I never imagined a boy like you could give me so much trouble. It’s unbelievable that you defeated my alterego, Agahnim the Dark Wizard, twice! But I will never give you the Triforce. I will destroy you and make my wish to conquer both Light and Dark Worlds come true without delay!
~ Ganon before his final battle with Link.

Ganondorf Dragmire, better known as Ganon or as his alter-ego Agahnim the Dark Wizard, is the main antagonist of the Downfall Timeline within Nintendo's The Legend of Zelda franchise.

In this timeline, he successfully defeated the Hero of Time in the final battle of Ocarina of Time and obtained the full Triforce. However, the Sages were still able to seal him in the Sacred Realm. Ganon later escaped and caused the Imprisoning War, which resulted in countless deaths.

In the Dark World, Ganon creates an alter-ego of himself, Agahnim, who is sent to Hyrule, leading to the events of A Link to the Past.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

In General[]

  • Despite being affected by Demise's curse, he still has a clear moral agency as he used to have redeeming qualities as he used to care for the Gerudo Tribe. This proves that he isn't a complete slave to the curse.
    • It also wouldn't matter how his Ganon form corrupts him, even in the circumstances of what happened in the Fallen Timeline, as he brought his own corruption to himself, as shown with what happened to his skin in comparison to most of the Gerudo people.
  • For how he turns out to be in the Fallen Timeline, any honorable redeeming quality he had is absent, only bloodlust with his ambition for more power, and his sympathy no longer has its presentation.
  • Despite having a tragedy of having lived in a harsh desert, it is not played for sympathy considering that he has became much worse than he used to be. He also never mentions about his tragedy as he no longer care about his people, only caring about getting as much power as he can for as long as possible, his original sympathetic motives long forgotten by himself in expense of this lust for power.
  • He lacks all of his sympathetic qualities, including his respect for Link and Zelda and his care for the Gerudo Tribe after Ocarina of Time.

Ocarina of Time[]

  • When denied the Spiritual Stones, he blocked off Dodongo's cavern and infected The Deku Tree and Lord Jabu-Jabu with Gohma and Barinade, respectively, causing the former's death, while starving the Gorons as he ends up depriving them off their food source.
  • He faked fealty to the King of Hyrule before enacting a coup that is even implied to have killed him.
  • When Link obtains the Master Sword, he enters the Sacred Realm, steals the Triforce of Power, and destroys Hyrule Castle Town, forcing its residents to move to Kakariko Village.
  • He unleashes Phantom Ganon against Link in the Forest Temple, while in the process of overrunning Kokiri Forest with deadly monsters.
  • He revives Volvagia, a beast capable of burning down all of Hyrule, and attempts to feed all Gorons to it to set an example to all the other races of Hyrule that they either submit to his rule lest he release Volvagia to burn Hyrule to a crisp.
  • He infects the Water Temple with Morpha and freezes the Zora under ice. This extends beyond harmless freezing as the prompt to thaw out King Zora is to revive him.
  • He revives Bongo Bongo and allows it to retreat to the Shadow Temple, leading to Kakairko Village being nearly engulfed in flames.
  • He kidnaps Zelda and challenges Link to rescue her.

Fallen Timeline[]

Prior to A Link To The Past[]

  • After defeating Link in battle, he then proceeded to steal Zelda’s Triforce of Wisdom, and managed to have access to the complete Triforce, shortly before killing the other Sages afterwards, forcing them into using the final moments of their life to seal him and his followers of thieves and Hylian rebels, who aligned with him during the final battle, into the Sacred Realm. This resulted in the Sages, upon their deaths, being succeeded by the Seven Wise Men.
  • At some point after getting imprisoned in the Sacred Realm, he killed all of his followers because he wanted all the power of the Triforce for himself. He later turned the Sacred Realm into the Dark World.
  • He plans to merge both the Dark and Light Worlds together into one, which will result in the Great Cataclysm, which, in turn, will result in countless casualties, and he most likely intends to do so, since not only does this confirm that his desire is to rule both worlds when they're merged together, but also implies his insatiable bloodlust as well.
  • He returned to Hyrule and caused the Imprisoning War, which resulted in countless deaths and Hyrule ending in a state of poverty.

A Link to the Past[]

  • Ganon lured greedy Hylians into the Dark Realm where they'd be turned into monsters and enlists them into his own army of monsters.
  • He creates an offshoot of himself, Agahnim, to slip through the seal. Through Agahnim, he gets into the King's good grace after solving various disasters, many of them Ganon himself organized, which ranges from deadly plagues to droughts.
  • As Agahnim, Ganon subsequently kills the King, brainwashes all the guards that refused to follow, and imprisons Princess Zelda.
  • When Link rescues Zelda, he (as Agahnim) frames him for kidnapping Princess Zelda and sends the brainwashed soldiers to stop him.
  • He forces Link to watch as he teleports Zelda to the Dark World.
  • He spitefully sends Link into the dark world after the boy manages to defeat his alter-ego.
  • In Ganon's Tower, Agahnim manifests again and fights Link again.
  • After Agahnim is defeated, Ganon lures Link to his pyramid, revealing his true form to Link while berating him for defeating his alter-ego twice, and attempts to defeat him for the last time.

Oracle games[]

  • He attempts to kill Link after getting resurrected by Twinrova.
    • While he has become a mindless, rampaging beast by the incompletion of the resurrection ritual, that doesn't detract him from his Pure Evil status.

The Legend of Zelda[]

  • After escaping from the Dark World, he leads a huge invasion against Hyrule and almost gets the complete Triforce.
  • He establishes several stockades all over Hyrule, cutting off paths from Hyrule's other races to prevent them from helping the kingdom.
  • He kidnaps Zelda right after she breaks the Triforce of Wisdom in eight pieces and scattering them throughout Hyrule, surely intending to kill her later.
  • He attempts to kill Link when he comes to rescue Zelda.

Zelda II: The Adventure of Link[]

  • While dead, his remaining loyal minions attempt to kill Link to use his blood to do resurrect him, and he would go back to his plans had they managed to do so.

Trivia[]

  • He is the first Zelda Pure Evil villain, and fittingly the first main Zelda villain in general.
