Frederick Charles "Freddy" Krueger is the main antagonist of the 2010 supernatural slasher film A Nightmare on Elm Street, a remake of the 1984 film of the same name.
He was a sadistic child molester who enjoyed grooming children and luring them to his secret cave, where he would molest, torture, and take pictures of them. After learning of this, the parents of the children burned him alive. Somehow, he returned as a vengeful spirit that had the ability to enter and manipulate dreams.
He is portrayed by Jackie Earle Haley.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He faked kindness to gain the trust of parents and children so he could groom and molest them.
- Besides molesting the kids, he would also slice their backs with his clawed glove as part of a sadistic fetish.
- He kills twelve people in his revenge plan in gruesome ways.
- He subverts any sympathy he could have for being killed by the parents instead of being given a fair trial by not only going after the children of the parents instead of the parents themselves, but being incredibly sadistic about it and taking joy in his killings.
- There's also the fact that the parents understandably did what they did out of disgust towards Freddy for what he did to their children and wanting them to be kept safe.
- He kills Dean in the real world by forcing his sleeping body to slit his own throat and stage Dean's murder as a suicide.
- He kills Chris by slashing her chest open, but not before he brutally throws her against her bedroom, coating Jesse in her blood. This also inadvertently leads Jesse to be framed for her murder and being unjustly thrown in jail.
- He punctures Jesse's heart and taunts him that his brain will stay alive for seven more minutes, allowing Freddy to continue to torture him some more.
- It's implied he frames Jesse's cellmate for his death.
- He nearly drowns Quentin during his swimming lessons.
- He planned to cause Nancy to fall into a permanent coma so he can keep her as his sex toy for the rest of her life and sexually abuse her all he wants.
- At the end of the film, he kills Nancy's mother in front of her before pulling her back in the mirror and repairing it, leaving her to never be seen again, and gets away with all of his crimes.
- It is implied that he kills Nancy immediately after the events of the film, meaning that he truly wins.
Trivia[]
- The original Freddy was supposed to be a child molester, but this was scrapped in order to avoid accusations of exploiting the spate of highly publicized child molestation cases at the time, so Freddy was made into a child murderer instead.
- According to the screenwriter, Eric Heisserer, Freddy was originally written as an innocent man falsely accused of child molestation before this idea was scrapped and made only implied at best. Had this been kept in, he wouldn’t qualify as Pure Evil.
- This version of Freddy takes elements from the novel Nightmare On Elm Street: Suffer The Children, a 2005 non-canon spin-off written by David Bishop. He takes up his characterization as a child molester and the fact of having been hospitalized after being burned alive, and of having died in a hospital.
