Forge Fitzwilliam is the secondary antagonist of the 2023 fantasy action comedy film Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves.
An opportunistic and self-serving rogue turned into the lord of the city of Neverwinter, he was once a former companion of the heroes Edgin Darvis, Holga Kilgore and Simon Aumar before betraying them to aid the sadistic red wizard Sofina in usurping the lordship of Neverwinter - henceforth becoming Edgin's archenemy in the process.
He was portrayed by Hugh Grant, who also played Mr. Reed in Heretic.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- During a mission to inflitrate Korin's Keep to take the Tablet of Reawakening so Edgin Darvis can resurrect his wife, Forge, with the help of Sofina, betrays Edgin and his friends Helga Kilgore and Simon Aumar by leaving them behind to get captured, although Simon was able to escape. Edgin and Holga would later spend two years in a prison known as Revel's End.
- While Forge later takes in Edgins daughter Kira as a ward as of means of making a promise to look after her while Edgin was imprisoned he most likely did it to manipulate Kira to turn her against her father and lies that Edgin had abandoned her and refers to the Tablet of Reawakening as the Tablet of Riches in order to persuade her into thinking that Edgin left her out of greed, knowing full well that he was trying to resurrect his wife for Kira's sake.
- He and Sofina take over Neverwinter and put the current lord into a coma, allowing Forge to take over and rule the place with an iron fist
- When the elves of the nearby woods objected to his rule, Forge sent his soldiers to dispose of them and raze the forest.
- After becoming Lord of Neverwinter, as a part of a conspiracy to Szass Tam's conquest, which Forge contributed to it, he revived the brutal High Sun Games, which were previously banned as they were considered to bloody for the city, in order to bring the townspeople and various other guests together so Sofina can use the Beckoning Death and turn everyone into undead slaves.
- Forge would then plan, which he plans even before his rise of power, to escape the city by boat with all the towns gold and treasures from his guests while leaving everyone else to terrible deaths, demonstrated that he was never interested in power but will go along with it to his own advantage and leave his role of ruler to escape along with the stolen goods he unearned gain. Showing that he cares about no one else but both himself and his thirst for gold, and any positive emotion he had toward anyone else was merely a shallow fondness, except Kira, who did show some deep concerns about her but he was still ready to give up on this redemptive traits out of spite for Edgin.
- It's worth to mention that Forge and Sofina's cooperation was pragmatic to begin with at best and that their disdain toward each other was mutual. Despite afraid of what she capable of, Forge used her to seize the position of Lord of Neverwinter to loot the whole city and relied on gaslighting and poor charm to remain in her good grace until he got what he wanted. Meanwhile, Sofina similarly reluctantly used him to gather its entire populace to be sacrificed all while enduring Forge's psychological abuse.
- During his attempt to escape the city, he held Kira at knife point, taking pride at his ability to have a shallow fondness toward some people and being willing to kill them at a moment's notice at the same time.
- While he did show that he does cared for her and even giving her a better life, when Edgin and his friends arrived and Forge showed that was ready to give up his love for Kira just to spite Edgin, he even tell him to leave the Tablet of Reawakening for the same reason.
- Attempted to kill Edgin only to be unwittingly incapacitated by a tidal wave summoned by Simon's control water spell for pushing the ship.
- When imprisoned in Revel's End, he tries to appeal for a pardon by telling the judges of his "sad backstory" of his mother who was strict and domineering to him, but was rejected. He then tries to use the councilman Jarnathan as an attempt to escape by throwing both of them through a window so Jarnathan can fly him away, although this fails due to the window being walled over due to Edgin and Holga's escape.
- Though he has lots of comedic moments, they never detract from his villainy as he's still played completely seriously in-universe.
- His attempt to force councilman Jarnathan to fly with him in order to escape jail only for the window already walled is more catheartic than humorous, as Edgin and Holga's more successful attempt in the same stunt prior ensured him to be appropriately punished for his crimes.
- While the film is a comedy, his actions are taken very seriously.
Trivia[]
- To further drive the point of his Pure Evil status, Edgin and co.'s enmity against Forge is much more personal than with Sofina and her fellow Red Wizards of Thay, especially considering Forge's accomplishment in manipulating the same coven who killed Edgin's wife in the past and live to tell the tale.
