Fenrir Greyback is a recurring antagonist in the Harry Potter franchise. He is a sadistic werewolf who takes pleasure in unleashing carnage and destruction wherever he goes, as well as one of Lord Voldemort's followers. He is also responsible for Remus Lupin's lycanthropy.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is unique among Harry Potter villains for being a cannibal, with Dumbledore stating that he started eating people in his human form.
- Upon his own infection, he decided to spread his lycanthropy, transforming the people he could into werewolves just like him so they could rally against wizardkind and conquer the world, often placing himself near his victims before a full moon to immediately attack them upon his transformation.
- He displayed a notorious glee towards attacking and killing children.
- During the First Wizarding War, he offered his services to Lord Voldemort. threatening others to go after their children if they didn't do Voldemort's bidding.
- After killing two Muggle children, he was tried by Ministry of Magic's Werewolf Registry and lied to them that he was a Muggle tramp with no knowledge about magic.
- Though his ruse worked with most officials, he didn't fool Lyall Lupin, who insulted his kind and fruitlessly tried to convince his fellows to place Greyback in custody until the next full moon. To get back at Lupin, Greyback sneaked into his home at night and infected his five-year-old son Remus Lupin, transforming Remus into a werewolf from then on, even though he wasn't at fault for his father's remarks.
- Fatally attacked the five-year-old brother of the Montgomery sisters after their mother refused to support the Death Eaters' cause upon Voldemort's return.
- The unfortunate infant died from his injuries later on.
- Before the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, he offered to kill Albus Dumbledore himself after failing to urge Draco Malfoy to kill the Headmaster until Severus Snape came and did the deed. He even implied to have eaten someone sometime before.
- Assaulted Bill Weasley during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower, scarring his face.
- Unsuccessfully tried to bite Harry Potter during the Battle of the Astronomy Tower.
- During the Second Wizarding War, he became a primary leader of the Snatchers, hunting down Muggle-borns, blood traitors and truants to hand them over to the Death Eater-controlled Ministry of Magic, though they were allowed to kill if they saw it necessary.
- Along with the Snatchers, he tracked down a fugitive group comprised of Dirk Cresswell, Ted Tonks, Dean Thomas and the goblins Griphook and Gornuk.
- In the end, only Thomas and Griphook were captured while Cresswell, Tonks and Gornuk were murdered for resisting capture.
- Captured Harry Potter, Ron Weasley, and Hermione Granger with the assistance of the Snatchers and brought them to the Malfoy Manor.
- As Bellatrix Lestrange interrogated them, he showed eagerness to eat Hermione, with huge implication of sexual overtones, which would also imply him as a pedophile.
- Fatally wounded Lavender Brown during the Battle of Hogwarts.
- His loyalty to Voldemort is just pragmatism and he is not protective towards him, meaning that even if he's his minion, he doesn't care what happens to him.
- He also only joined Voldemort just for his resources to corrupt more people and werewolves to his cause.
- While most werewolves, like his victim Remus Lupin, try to hide their condition and be sure to not be around when a full moon comes so they will not attack anyone to protect them, Greyback is sadistic and savage as he embraces his condition and delights in displaying his animalistic tendencies even when he's in human form.
- Though it's true that werewolves face discrimination and prejudice among wizards and aren't treated so well, Greyback is far past this excuse, enjoying being a monster and infecting others with his condition, not caring if he ruins their lives or if he ends up killing them.
Trivia[]
- Only the original book incarnation of Fenrir Greyback can be considered Pure Evil, while his film incarnation doesn't count because while the films have lower heinous standards than those of the books, the most gruesome and heinous aspects of his actions, including his involvement in Lupin's curse, are simply omitted or unmentioned, and he has little to no personality or characterization in the films.
