I've planted my seeds,
I've done evil deeds,
I'll Sacrifice you for my dream.
My future is set,
I bear no regret,
I'll conquer worlds of gods and men.
~ "Kingdom."
I steal your sanity, betray your heart and let it bleed,
Burn down your paradise and drain your love.
I stain your purity, become thy faithful enemy,
Defile your womanhood before his eyes.
~ "The Fifth Angel."

Griffith is a recurring character in several songs by the Finnish songwriter and guitarist Anton Kabanen, specifically in those songs which are tributes to the manga series Berserk. Largely mirroring his original counterpart, Griffith was the leader of the mercenary company called the Band of the Hawk. However, he sacrificed his entire army to the God Hand to become the latter's fifth member with Femto as his new name.

Due to Kabanen switching bands, this version of Griffith appears in the album Battle Beast by the band of the same name, as well as in the albums Berserker and From Hell with Love by the band named Beast in Black.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • In the Eclipse, he sacrifices his own soldiers, the Band of the Hawk, to the demonic God Hand in exchange for immense power. The Eclipse sacrifice is described across several songs, with the ones from Griffith's perspective showing a glimpse of his thoughts. For example, in "Repentless," he declares "It's a blessing of malice and gore" and expresses sadism at the sight of his men dying.
  • He horribly rapes Casca and forces his former friend Guts to watch. He describes his actions in "The Fifth Angel," where (among other things) he declares "Evil has never felt so fucking good" in reference to the deed. And while he uses euphemisms (e.g. "defile") in "The Fifth Angel," he also explicitly mentions rape in "Repentless."
  • The end results of these actions have horribly scarred Guts physically and mentally, as can be seen in the songs from Guts' perspective like "Go To Hell" and "Beast in Black." Most notably, in "Go To Hell," Guts says "Blood comes out, I scream and shout / But the pain won't fade away" in reference to the experience of living through the Eclipse.
  • After all that he did, Griffith shows no remorse for any of his actions, and rather gleefully celebrates his ascension to the God Hand. In the song "Kingdom," he rather explicitly says "I bear no regret" in reference to (also in his words) the "evil deeds" he's done. Aditionally, in that same song, he also states that the "Black Angel" and the "White Hawk" are the same in spirit and soul, which confirms that Griffith and Femto are both one in the same and that he's fully aware of the atrocities he commited and made a conscious decision to do so.
  • Because the various songs by Anton Kabanen don't cover the entirety of Berserk, this means Griffith has effectively no competition, and the other heinous villains of the setting such as Wyald and Ganishka are never mentioned.
  • Also because of the way Berserk is only selectively adapted, Griffith lacks any sort of Freudian Excuse for his actions (even if his canon counterpart's backstory only made him Fake Tragic), and since his pre-Eclipse acts of heroism are offscreen, there were few (if any) redeeming qualities for him to subvert during the Eclipse anyways.
