When you notice an insect on the ground, do you stop to consider it a fool? The life of an insect is so beneath you that it would be a waste of your time to even consider judging it. That would be an accurate summation on my feelings towards you humans.
~ Father's famous speech.

Father is the main antagonist of the manga and 2009 anime series, Fullmetal Alchemist. He is a homunculus created several hundred years ago who sought to obtain freedom outside the flask he was born in, created by Van Hohenheim, the father of the series' protagonists, Edward and Alphonse Elric. Father manipulating the country of Amestris into starting wars all in order to create a nationwide transmutation circle and obtain the power of "God".

He was voiced by the late Iemasa Kayumi in the Japanese version, and by Kent Williams in the English dubbed version.

History

What Makes Him Pure Evil?

  • Manipulated the King of Xerxes into massacring his people in order to create a transmutation circle needed to create the Philosopher's Stone, but lied about where to stand, sacrificing the entire nation of Xerxes to create immortal bodies for himself and Van Hohenheim.
  • Father created the nation of Amestris and manipulated everything from the shadows by starting countless wars in neighboring lands and towns, all part of a plan to create an even larger Nationwide Transmutation circle to create another Philosopher's Stone and acquire the power of "God".
  • Father created his seven homunculus, but held absolutely no care for any of them and never showed any grief over their deaths.
  • He led a project where several orphans were gathered and trained them to become the next homunculus and the country's leader in order to further manipulate the events of the country. Many of the participants subsequently died when given the Philosopher's Stone, as their bodies could not handle its power.
  • He was responsible for the Ishvalan War, and ordered Envy to disguise himself as a soldier to shoot an innocent child to incite rebellion from the Ishvalans.
  • He only cared about keeping Edward and Alphonse alive because they'd seen The Gate and were thus needed for the Nationwide Transmutation Circle, and held no qualms about killing anyone else who wasn't vital to his plans.
  • Father killed his son, Greed, by having him dropped into molten gold to melt him back down into a pure Philosopher's Stone when he rebelled against Father, then later recreated Greed by inserting the Philosopher's Stone into the body of Ling.
  • Father sheds his only redeeming quality, caring about Hohenheim and helping him by giving him a name, knowledge, and immortality, when Hohenheim comes to stop Father, who attempts to take Hohenheim's Philosopher Stone without hesitation.
  • Father initiated the Nationwide Transmutation Circle, sacrificing the lives of more than 50 million people and absorbing the power of "God".
  • Even after having obtained the power of "God", he didn't fix Pride, whose body was damaged when he forced Mustang to perform human transmutation, even though it would've been easy to do so.
  • When Hohenheim undos the Nationwide Transmutation Circle and removes all the Amestrian souls, Father goes up to the surface and kills many more soldiers to turn them into energy for his Philosopher's Stone while subsequently abandoning Pride as well.
  • He kills several more soldiers during their fight, and unleashes a powerful blast that nearly killed Edward and Izumi were it not for Hohenheim shielding them with his body.
  • He attempts to steal Greed's Philosopher Stone, and after Greed reverses the Ultimate Shield to transform Father's body into a fragile carbon base, Father mercilessly kills Greed.
  • When confronted by Truth, Father selfishly refuses to take any blame for his actions or the people he killed, saying there was nothing wrong with seeking perfection and failing to see how he never changed from his early days. Then, as Father is sucked back into the Gate, Father pathetically begs for his life and asks what else he should've done even though he'd ignored the answer to that question for so long.
