All these men have come to kill me! Why?! Because they know! They know that I am greater than man! I am greater than God! And they're afraid of what I can do!
~ Eugene Hoff's last lying words as he is being shot by Melanie Cramer.

Eugene Hoff, also known by his fake name Abraham Ophion, is the main antagonist of the Law and Order: Special Victims Unit episode "Charisma". He is a career con artist who is the founding leader of the "Church of Wisdom and Sight".

He was portrayed by Jeff Kober, who originally dubbed Casanova's voice in Kiss the Girls.

What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]

  • Before starting his cult, he committed various kinds of fraud, check forgery, counterfeiting, and identity theft.
  • He got a job at a church where he gained a more active role after a few months, becoming the direct of faith ministries and leading discussions, charming families into liking him and becoming more delusional with the more power that he gained.
  • He preached that Jesus Christ was the real serpent in the Garden of Eden and that he may be the true Messiah. When he was fired from the church, he got ten families to leave the church with him, changing his name to Abraham Ophion and starting his own cult called the Church of Wisdom and Sight where he had his followers worship him as their Messiah, father, and husband.
  • Due to his paranoia that the government would come for them, he had his followers collect weapons, go to the shooting range and store food. He began separating the men and women who were married, under the excuse that they couldn't be "soldiers of God if they were slaves to the flesh," which allowed him to prey on the young girls in the cult.
  • He took advantage of female cult members who he would impregnate and he repeatedly raped and sexually abused the young girls in the cult and made them bear his children, going on to rape and impregnate his own biological children as well.
  • He was caught attempting to rape Janie Buchman, a four-year-old girl, which caused her family to leave the cult.
  • He murdered cult member John Kramer by shooting him through the head and put his body inside of a wall, lying to John's wife Cindy that John at ran away, leading Cindy to change her name to Sarah seek refuge in the cult with her young daughter, Melanie.
  • He takes an interest in Melanie due to the trust fund that he knows she will inherit and rapes and impregnates her.
  • He orders one of his cult members to murder six of his own children before killing herself, an act which traumatized the SVU detectives.
  • He kidnaps Melanie from the hospital, brainwashing her into remaining loyal to him.
  • When he and Melanie are found by the detectives, he has Melanie shoot Officer Zermeño in the leg and instructs her to kill Zermeño and Benson, proclaiming that he is greater than God.
  • As delusional as he was, he still has full moral agency and willingly commits horrific acts for his own benefit. With his sexual abuse of numerous children and multiple murders, he stands out as one of the most vile villains of the franchise.
