What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He created the terrorist organization S.P.E.C.T.R.E and has facilitated terrorism around the world and enacted many evil plots all for profit. Examples include:
- He had Julius No attempt to start World War III between America and Russia.
- He has Rosa Klebb try to steal the Lektor to turn the Soviet Union against the west.
- He had Emilio Largo steal two nuclear warheads to extort money from NATO.
- He kills his underlings for betraying or failing him, often via painful and cruel methods:
- He had Kronsteen poisoned by Morzeny for failing him.
- He electrocuted S.P.E.C.T.R.E 9 to death for embezzling money.
- He fed Helga Brandt to piranhas for failing him.
- He shot Mr. Osato dead for failing to kill Bond, calling it "the price of failure".
- He attempted to initiate World War III between the Soviets and the Americans and have them wipe each other out via nuclear war, which would result in the deaths of millions, and would allow S.P.E.C.T.R.E to blackmail the newest world superpower that dominates the world.
- He kidnapped and imprisoned American and Russian astronauts to advance this goal, leading to one dying.
- He set his base to self-destruct to kill everyone in it, including Bond, his allies and Blofeld's own men.
- He committed bacteriological warfare by having a bacteria spread to annihilate the world's agricultural supply.
- He started an avalanche that killed several of his men just to kill Bond.
- Out of vengeance, he assassinated Bond's wife, Tracy, on their wedding day.
- He powered a satellite with a powerful laser and called for an auction between the Soviets, Chinese and Americans where the winner would possess nuclear supremacy and the losers would be destroyed by the satellite.
- He destroyed two military bases and a submarine to demonstrate his satellites' power and force the USA, USSR and China into the auction.
- He kidnapped and imprisoning Willard Whyte to take over his empire.
- While he does have a pet cat, it's likely he only considers it to be just an accessory and doesn't truly care for it. This is confirmed when Blofeld sets his entire base to self-destruct while he escapes, even though he doesn't have his cat with him and it is still in the base, and shows no remorse or concern doing so.
- He tortured and attempted to kill Bond one last time with his helicopter.
- He even killed the pilot in the process.
- He is one of, if not the most dangerous and heinous villain Bond has ever faced due to attempting to destroy both entire countries in nuclear war and the world's agricultural supply, and is also the most personal enemy of Bond, having committed the most personal crimes against him.
Trivia[]
- Only the film incarnation of Ernst Stavro Blofeld can be considered Pure Evil, while his original novel incarnation can't because his most heinous crimes don't happen in the novels due to him only appearing in Thunderball, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and You Only Live Twice, and being killed by Bond to avenge Tracy, thus making his most heinous crimes happen in the film adaptations of the novels where he didn't make an appearance.
- Originally, Blofeld was supposed to indeed survive the events of Diamonds are Forever and return in The Spy Who Loved Me as the main antagonist, but was replaced by Karl Stromberg (thus leading to his death in For Your Eyes Only) due to the decades-spanning copyright feud on Thunderball. Had he returned as originally planned, it would've made him even worse.
- This is, alongside his NSNA and reboot series counterpart, one of three incarnations of Ernst Stavro Blofeld to be Pure Evil. He is also the only Pure Evil villain in the original series of the 007 franchise to appear in more than one era.
