| “ | I snap a lot of necks in VR...! ...but that certain tremor as life fades from the eyes... ooh! No holo quite gets it. | „ |
| ~ Erik's infamous quote. |
Erik Visser is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Regalla) of Horizon Forbidden West.
He is the military commander of the Far Zenith army, who serves as the second-in-command of its current leader Gerard Bieri.
A sadistic, ruthless warmonger, Erik takes pleasure in inflicting violence and pain to anyone he deems low, and has taken a twisted interest in targetting the tribes of the New Earth, even more than Gerard, all to satisfy his bloodlust, with him being responsible for the death of the Nora Brave, Varl, and countless other tribesmen he encountered.
He was voiced by Marc Kudisch.
What makes Him Pure Evil[]
- While the Horizon series' heinous standards is quite high as of late, Erik stands out within the in-story standards of the series with his heinous act that is considerably unique to the series: he is one of the only few Horizon villains to successfully kill a major character, which is Varl, as it was plot-centric and had a huge impact on the major characters including Aloy, Erend, Kotallo, Zo, Beta and Alva.
- Willing to happily hurt and kill those he sees, particularly the New Earth tribes, after he grew bored of his simulated killings in Sirius, which is demonstrated through his encounters with Aloy.
- While Erik snapping necks on his VR simulations in Sirius might sound ridiculous on paper, this only makes Erik's already notable sadism exponentially worse, as he soon demonstrated it when he killed Varl in front of Aloy.
- Erik is also a callous murderer, who killed various tribesmen he personally sees, as it was recounted by a fearful Beta, and later killed Varl in a violent, painful way in front of Aloy inside Cauldron GEMINI. He also took pleasure in abusing Beta horribly, even more so than what Bieri had already done, which is also directly responsible for Beta's fearful personality.
- Willingly took part in Bieri's attempted genocide of all life on Earth via allowing Nemesis to kill everything freely, only doing so out of sadism, rather then because he wanted to help Bieri with his goals.
- Installed three Zenith machine lures around the Valley of the Fallen, in an attempt to have both Gerard and him "having fun" by clearing the "local vermin" around the area.
- He does so by luring the machines within the area, during one of his interactions with the Zenith AI Julius, which led to a few of the Lowland Tenakth getting slaughtered and injured in the process.
- Erik is pretty much the epitome of a sadist, who only takes glee in hurting others, often with him trying to be as remorseless as possible, which is lampshaded with one of his few quotes about his history of snapping necks from VR in Sirius.
- A perfect example of this is him gloating when he killed Varl with the following quote "Now we're having fun, right?", showcasing that he is a character with zero redeeming factors who is non-hesitant in killing anyone he sees low.
- While he works as Gerard Bieri's second-in-command, Visser only uses that said position to inflict harm on others to satiate his sadism and bloodlust, especially towards the "local fauna", directly targeting the tribes of the New Earth.
- His death at the hands of Aloy and Zo was not played for sympathy either, as he only remarked with "I almost forgot what it was like to hurt." This is only demonstrating his laughable excuse of being unable to inflict pain towards others after his death, rather than it being a redeeming quality.
