Erik Jan Hanussen is one of the two secondary antagonists (alongside Grigori Rasputin) of The King's Man, the prequel of the Kingsman franchise.
He is the smart and manipulative advisor to Kaiser Wilhelm II.
He was portrayed by Daniel Brühl
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a member, and currently leader, of the Flock a powerful organization which planned and organized the assassination of Franz Ferdinand which caused WW1.
- He acts like he respects Wilhelm, so he would do what he says.
- He wasn't sad or upset when Rasputin got killed. This shows that he has no respect neither for his country nor for his partners
- He doesn't care about the german citizenship since he manipulated Wilhelm to push the war forward.
- He is even worse than Morton, since latter had a minor tragic backstory because his land got taken away by the british monarchs.
- He has no real ideology, he just wants power and influence
- He also wasn't upset about Morton's death and just took his place as leader of the Flock in the process.
- He advised the Kaiser to send the Zimmermann Telegram, proposing a German-Mexican alliance against the USA. This act aimed to divert American attention and prevent their entry into the war but ultimately backfired when the Kingsman intercepted and decoded the message.
- He facilitated the Bolshevik Revolution by supporting Lenin, leading to the overthrow of the Russian monarchy and the establishment of a communist regime.
- After the revolution the entire Romanov family got executed, even the kids got killed.
- In the mid-credit scene, Hanussen introduces a young Adolf Hitler to Lenin, indicating his role in shaping future global conflicts and setting the stage for WW2.
Trivia[]
- He is the third pure evil from the King's Man, the other being Rasputin and Morton, and the fifth of the franchise, the others being Poppy Adams and Charlie Hesketh.
- Ironically Daniel Brühl played Matthias Erzberger, an anti-war activist and politician, in All Quiet on the Western Front.
