Aaaand a great big "Hi!" to all of you out there in flesh-and-blood land! And tonight, Dave Lister, assistant vending machine sub-operative, and spice food connoisseur, this is your death!
~ The Epideme
David come on, you've got a virus it's fatal, it happens, doesn't mean we can't be friends! DON'T TOUCH THAT DIAL!
~ The Epideme's most famous quote while taunting Lister over his impending death.

The Epideme is the main antagonist of Red Dwarf series VII, appearing as the titular main antagonist of episode "Epideme" and the posthumous overarching antagonist in the finale "Nanarchy".

It is a man-made, communicative and smart virus which ultimately took on a mind and personality of its own to the point of electing itself to kill as many beings as it could find to keep living and expand its own knowledge and strength in the process.

It was voiced by Gary Martin who also voiced Bergan in Final Fantasy XII, while possessing Caroline Carmen it was portrayed by Nicky Leatherbarrow.

What Makes It Pure Evil?[]

  • The infection and slow, painful killings of all of its victims and enjoying and revelling in every minute of it.
    • Infecting and killing everybody on the world where it was created DELTA VII.
    • Infecting and killing every crew member on board the Leviathan.
  • Preserving Caroline Carmen's corpse by freezing it and taking complete control over it until the Starbug crew encounter it.
  • Raping and infecting David Lister with itself.
  • Taunting and mocking Lister and his crewmates over the former's inevitable death, eventually driving Lister to try and kill himself.
  • Sending the crew on a wild goose chase just to give itself more time to kill Lister.
  • Infecting what he assumes is Kochanski and gloating about returning for a "second season" before being presumably destroyed.
