Enoch J. Drebber is a minor antagonist in the 2016 manga series, Moriarty the Patriot, and its 2020 anime adaptation. He serves as the main antagonist in the A Study in "S" arc.
He is a wealthy aristocrat who resides in Lauriston Gardens, Wales, while seemingly a victim of murder, his true nature comes to light when it is revealed by Sherlock Holmes that he is a serial rapist who relishes in taking advantage of women, even tortured and abused them, having a record of kidnapping many beautiful women through abduction or human trafficking. He is the one responsible for the rape and death of Lucy Ferrier, the wife of Jefferson Hope.
What Makes Him Pure Evil?[]
- He is a depraved serial rapist who regularly abducts or purchases young, beautiful women from human trafficking rings for the sole purpose of raping, torturing, and killing them to satisfy his perverted urges. The methods he used involved crucifixion and whipping them to death, around 11-12 women died from his degrading treatment.
- He bribed police officers and hospital staff to discard his victims' deaths as "accidents" or "suicides" to avoid justice and get off scot-free.
- He abducted and raped Lucy Ferrier, the wife of Jefferson Hope, and later dropped her corpse in the latter's house for him to find out of spite. His actions would be his downfall as Hope killed him out of vengeance and drove the man to suicide because of what he did.
- Despite being dead in the present, Drebber's entire personality and crimes are vividly told in detail by Holmes to elaborate on the kind of person he is and therefore, establish enough characterization.
Trivia[]
- Only Drebber qualifies as Pure Evil in the manga as most of his crimes in the anime adaptation were barely explored in detail with only the death of Lucy Ferrier shown and his overall personality is made too vague as well with none of the subtle details had been used to speak volumes on his personalities that were present in the manga.
